July-August 2005 FFXI Patch Compilation of Info
Posted by: Cuer - Tue Jul 19th, 2005 02:21 pm EDT
The July 2005 FFXI patch was the first major game update in three months, bringing a slew of additions and changes; the August patch provided more gameplay changes and a number of fixes. All the information about these patches will be eventually be found within this compilation of info. This news covers the main patch that went live on July 19, 2005, and the second patch from August 1, 2005. (Previous patch compilations of info can be found in the News Highlights.)

Original Post: July 19, 2005
Last Updated: Monday, April 17, 2006

Latest Additions: Updated with the latest information; as more info is available regarding the additions in this patch, it will be added. The main info still missing here relates to Sea, and the many drops from the mobs there; once that data is completed in the database, this Compilation of Info will be updated to reflect that info.

Attohwa Chasm
Name Level Family Drops Comments
Alastor Antlion Unknown Antlion Rostrum Pumps
  • Eventual spawn from trading an Antlion Trap to the ??? at F-10.
    1. The Feeler Antlion is initially spawned by the trap.
    2. The Feeler Antlion needs to be kept alive and tanked, and it will periodically spawn either an Executioner Antlion, or the Alastor Antlion. Which Antlion spawns from the Feeler Antlion (or whether one spawns at all) is based on it doing a weaponskill, so it can be controlled by not hitting the Feeler Antlion, to keep it from getting TP. When the Feeler Antlion uses Venom Spray or Mandibular Bite, nothing is spawned. When it uses Sandpit, an Executioner Antlion will spawn; when it uses Sandblast, Alastor Antlion will spawn.
    3. Kill the Executioner Antlions as they spawn; if left unkilled, up to 8 of them can be loaded at once.
    4. Eventually, the Alastor Antlion will spawn. At that point all the smaller Antlions (any Feeler or Executioner Antlions) should be immediately killed, since they are no longer needed. Note that after the Alastor is spawned, the Feeler will continue to periodically spawn the Executioner Antlions, if left alive, even if no longer has any TP. After the smaller antlions are cleared out, the Alastor Antlion can then be taken down. Care should be taken to avoid aggro or have someone defeat the nearby Tracker Antlions, that can spawn in approximately four spots around the area, as they do link.
  • Killable by: A full alliance of 18 characters level 75 is recommended to deal with Alastor and the other antlions.
  • Item Drops: The Rostrum Pumps drops 100% of the time.
  • Special Attacks: Immune to Stun and most debuff spells, although not Weaponskills or Gravity; Additional Effect: Petrify; Breakga; casts Stoneskin, Stonega III, Stone IV, Quake
Ambusher Antlion Unknown Antlion Archer's Jupon

  • Shen's Filtrates are two Water Elemental NMs; they are resummoned throughout the fight if killed, and automatically attack whoever Shen has hate on. Changed Mobs
Some drops were changed, as noted in the official July 19 Patch Notes: "Some of the treasure items earned from notorious monsters in the Boyahda Tree have been changed." These changes seem to be that Aquarius no longer drops a Damascene Cloth.

Changes to a wide range of mobs were listed in the official July 19 Patch Notes:
Monster locations have been adjusted, particularly in Chains of Promathia areas. The following areas will be affected:
Bibiki Bay, Uleguerand Range, Attohwa Chasm, Newton Movalpolos, Promyvion – Holla, Promyvion – Dem, Promyvion – Mea, Promyvion – Vahzl, Lufaise Meadows, Phomiuna Aqueducts, the Sacrarium, Riverne – Site #A01, Riverne – Site #B01, the Garden of Ru’Hmet, Ro’Maeve, the Boyahda Tree, the Den of Rancor, the Shrine of Ru'Avitau, Kuftal Tunnel

Information on the changes known so far are listed here, and have been updated in the site databases. The changes here mainly deal with modifications to the total number of copies of a mob that can spawn at once; presumably, the mobs were also moved around within these zones, to make them easier to xp on.

If you have information on any mob changes, please post it in the Mob Changes discussion.

Mobs in Bibiki Bay: The overall move here was to dramatically reduce the number of low level mobs, and fill in higher level ones in the northern area. More copies (spawn) of high level mobs were added everywhere except the start of the zone, expanding the usefulness of this zone for level 65+ experience parties. As in all zones, the lower level version of all mobs are closer to the zoneline, while the highest level versions are farthest away from the entrance.
  • Reduced the number of spawn on lower level mobs: Goblins, Eft, Dhalmel, Birds, etc.
  • Increased the number of spawn of many higher level mobs: Rarabs, Eft, Hobgoblins, etc. Most of the Hobgoblins were increased by 1-2 spawn, although the Hobgoblin Toreador was increased by 3, to a total of 5.
  • The Catoblepas total spawn was increased from 7 to 18, and the level span increased as well. They now start around level 76, with these lower level versions located around G-6; the higher level versions are still further south, as before.
  • Added a high level bird mob with 7 spawn points: Tragopan.

Mobs in Uleguerand Range:
  • Variable Hare: Spawn lowered from 70 to 34.
  • Esbat: Spawn lowered from 10 to 5.
