Final Fantasy XI Missions

Mission Lists
Missions are a specific type of adventure that a character can take to improve their standing within Final Fantasy XI. There are currently five different sets of missions that a character can play through. They provide over-arching stories of the world of Vana'diel, detailing both history of the races there and the current conflicts. There are rewards provided by many of the missions, including access to restricted areas in Vana'diel, increasing amounts of gil, and special items. The five sets of missions are made up of three Starting Nation Missions sets, and two Expansion Missions sets that can be completed; a character can change allegiance to move between the three Starting Nation Missions sets, if they wish to access all the missions in FFXI.

The three sets of Starting Nation Missions are from the nations that a character can start in: Bastok, San d'Oria, or Windurst. There are twenty missions available in each of these sets. A character receives these missions from one of the Mission Starter guards in his home city. As he proceeds through the missions, he will receive Ranks from his nation. Characters receive Ranks based on completion of the previous set of missions; for example, completing the missions through Rank 3 grants Rank 4 to a character. This continues all the way up to Rank 10, which is the highest Rank awarded by the Starting Nation Missions. An increasing amount of gil is also given to an adventurer as he achieves these Ranks. When a character achieves Rank 5 in any of the Starting Nation Missions, the standard Airship Pass is awarded, providing easy transportation between Jeuno and the three starting nations. Once a character achieves Rank 10, that nation's flag is given to him, a special furniture item that provides extra Conquest Points when defeating monsters.

The two sets of Expansion Missions are based on the expansion packs for FFXI. The Rise of the Zilart expansion pack provides a set of seventeen missions; these missions are referred to as Zilart Missions, or by the acronym ZM. A character can access the Zilart Missions once he has achieved Rank 6 in any of the Starting Nation Missions sets. The Zilart Missions tell a great story of the history of Vana'diel, providing one of the most interesting storylines in FFXI. Reaching ZM13 allows a character entrance into the Tu'Lia region of the game, with all the areas therein commonly referred to as Sky.

The Chains of Promathia expansion pack provides a long set of missions that lead through many of the areas added with that expansion pack. A character must have achieved Rank 3 in any of the Starting Nation Missions sets to access this latest set of missions. The Promathia missions grant access to the regions of Tavnazia and Lumoria. Full details about this set of missions will be added in the near future.
