The July 24, 2006 Final Fantasy XI patch brought a slew of additions to the game. Apart from a new magical resistance for NMs, a large number of merit point additions were added, and the three new jobs introduced with the
Treasures of Aht Urhgan
expansion were fleshed out further. This compilation of info will eventually contain details on the various changes from the

August 21 patch
added
Chocobo Raising
to the game, along with a handful of small fixes. Be sure to post in the
Chocobo Raising Discussion
with details, as those are known.
Very few changes were made in the data files from this patch; none of the quest, mission, keyitem and other such data was changed. The few minor item changes:
The
Yellow
,
Black
, and
Blue
VCS Plaques were made Inscribable (although they're still Exclusive).
The
Storm Fife
is
Exclusive
again.
The item icons for the
Cerberus Bow
and
Ceberus Bow +1
were slightly changed.
New Items

Merit Point Additions
As detailed in the
patch notes
, the merit point system was expanded dramatically with this patch. The basic info is listed here, for all the new abilities, spells and job traits available via merits, for the 15 pre-ToAU jobs.
Note that all of these job traits/job abilities/spells are only available at level 75, when the character has allocated merit points in that job, to unlock them. These group 2 merit abilities cost 3 merit points to unlock, and then can be extended 2 more times (at a cost of 4 and then 5 merit points). Since these new group 2 merits can be raised a total of 6 times in total, that means that 2 of the new abilities can be capped in a specific job.

A new type of battlefield fight was added with this patch, that provides for fights similar to BCNMs. These are activated by spending Imperial Standing credits (IS); so far they cost either 2000 or 3000 IS. The NPC
Shajaf
in Aht Urghan Whitegate gives the necessary keyitems, in exchange for Imperial Standing credits.
Every character who enters the ISNM must have the appropriate keyitem. These fights are found in the new battlefield areas, part of the ToAU zones. There are three battlefield zones used, with two fights in each battlefield, one with a level 60 cap and one uncapped. The ISNM fights are listed below.
