The Viscous Liquid in this zone changes you to a Mamool Ja, but gives you a nasty poison. Regen III seems to pretty much counteract the poison. While you are in that form, nothing will become aggressive to you. What I do, to explore the area solo or when I take people through to the staging point, is go from one Liquid to the next. Nothing gets close to the liquids, so you can safely rest if you hug them. Use them kind of like checkpoints.
