I got the story 36 hours ago, but i still can't find an option to tell it to my chocobo. I think you may have to wait until more options open up at the adolescent stage.

I can also confirm that after I did a Bastok --> Jeuno lost choco quest I flew back and the trainer took back the hankie with my scent on it. There was no immediate change in my choco's condition but hopefully it will feel better after the 24-hour mark rolls around.

Riding a chocobo has nothing to do with it, you just need to come back some time after recieving it. I only check mine once a day (after the time when it gets the status update) so it cant be any more than that long.

Chocobo friend your chocobo meets during the 'Go on a walk (Short)' event depends on the nation you are rasing your chocobo. ^^

Windy - Spring
Sandy - Air
Bastok - Blood

Don't stress. I had the same exact problem with my Choco and he's fine now. Just let the rest care schedule take it's course and I'm sure your Choco will be fine too.

So I did the Jeuno quest for my egg. My fiance bought his egg from the NPC. His ended up starving, slept an entire earth day, and then became ill. He was very unhappy about spending 100k on Tokopekko Wildgrass... which is pretty absurd. I guess he's better now. But he hadn't been very happy. My chocobo on the other hand, LadyDestruction (yes, I named her that), was doing great up until I just checked on her a few minutes ago. She wants to be with me all the time, and earlier today it said she was ill-tempered and ideal for military use. But now it no longer says the ill-tempered thing. She had been gulping down her food and loving it. Now she's crying at night and munching weakly at her food. I just got the handkerchief, so I'll probably return it in the morning. I've been giving her a little bit of everything to eat, but I think the problem may be that I'm overfeeding her. Should I not be feeding her till she's completely full? Maybe just till she's a little hungry, or neither hungry nor full? She'll usually take two things when she's hungry till she's full, so maybe I should stick to one? I usually take her on a walk once a day and look over her 5-8 times or so till her stamina bar is at about 50%. I don't let it get past that coz I imagine that can't be good for her. LadyDestruction hasn't made any friends on her walks yet tho. My fiance's did but I don't know what the name was. I am growing a variety of things but they seem to be taking forever. It's been a few days and they haven't asked for a crystal yet. I think they need to sell more than just the Gysahl Greens from NPC's. People are entirely too greedy with the prices they're charging for the food they grow. 60k for one carrot... 100k for a clump of grass.... come on. But anyway.. I'm rambling. Basically, should I not be feeding her till she's full? I can imagine that might not be real good for her.

Sounds like your Spoiling your chocobo, you may have to end up dicipline`ing it. frankly watching over it till its bar is at 50%, and feeding it Gyshal greens might do that. of course im not no expert lol.

Change all of its Schedules to 1 day. Care schedules can be changed all the time, the point of having all 4 care schedules is if your gone from your computer for several days or so. at this point alot of people have accidently put their chocobo into comatouse(resting for like 6-7 days) and i feel kinda bad for those people. since not much is really known about setting up a care Schedule, put everything at 1 day, and pick them under stuff that you want. this will fix the resting issue.

Also i had my chocobo on Basic care, and its Energy bar seemed to replenish itself each day so far on its own, as if their was no need for rest for it to just recover its energy, it might just be for recovering from illness.

I think the rest option will come into effect later on when your choco is older. mine got sick on day 7 (also needed the hackerchief) gave it some toko grass, and did my normal routine (had it listen to music), and the next day she was fine, full energy and ready to go. i usually walk mine 2-3 times, and watch over it once or twice, and its very content with me (thinks of me as a parent). i also try not to feed it till its full, only close to it. i just think the rest part is for when they have ALOT more energy when normal sleep doesnt replenesh as much, cause kids and chicks alike, sleep alot as is.

Just my thoughts about chocobo breeds...

www.playonline.com/pcd/topics/ff11us/detail/538/detail.html

This was posted on June. If you read the Breeds part carefully, it seems like coloured chocobos are nowadays like rare 'mutations' of those breeds. That leads me to think that: A) Chocobos are born with their actual color, and it doesnt change with age nor training; B) We'll have to mate our chocobos with the appropiate partners to get, after some generations, a coloured one.

Also, it seems like there is no way to know wich breed is our chocobo from, so I'm guessing that these first chocobos are, actually, from none of those breeds. I mean... Each breed has different features: Destriers (Black choboos) are likely to have the higher Endurance and to be suitable for war, Coursers (Red ones) are probably stronger as they are likely to be the fastest ones, Palfreys (Blue) would like heat weather and have a gentle personality and Jennets (Green) are the smallest ones...

Maybe if we train our chocobos so they have those features, and mate them with similar chocobos, we'll re-discover the now mixed breeds.

humm, from reading this alot of poeple are having problems, dunno if im doing somthing right or not, but my chick is 8 days old now, (quested for egg), every day i take it on 3 walks. feed it till its full, then watch over till its bar is empty. my chocobos stats havnt changed as of yet appart from its affection, it sees me as its parent. its still sleeping well and it hasnt got ill yet (touch wood). all this i do in 1 go then leave it, it also seems that it recovers its stamina on the tick you started chocobo raising. so if you started 6:15pm earth time thats the time 24 hrs later it recovers stamina also its status change if any (best guess) apart from affection as that changed with me feeding it 2 days ago and hasnt changed again since

@ Boras: I agree with everything you said except that the chocobos will be born with whatever color they will be later on. I believe it was in the killingifrit forums, but somebody found some of the .dat files for chocobos, and it seems that color starts to emerge in adolescence. I'll look for the link to post here*, but it does seem that all chocobos (even those which will later be black/blue/whatever) are born yellow.

*Found the pic of growing chocobos showing colors in this thread (not the .dat files I was talking about, but gives you an idea anyways): http://www.killingifrit.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=132638&d=90

Today (Day 12) I got the message that my chocobo has been "Quite perky lately" and should be receptive to "anything I give it" now. The status update also says, "Your chocobo has been receiving plenty of affection, and seems extremely happy. It is in excellent condition now." For those of you lucky ones who learned stories... maybe what you needed to wait for was this. As for me, I still only have the same two care options, watching over and walking, as well as the same 3 care plan options. I'm assuming it's a good thing though! When I watched over her, her message became "Your chocobo is in high spirits." There was no change in her daily walk.

For care, I've been paying special attention to not overfeeding or over caring-for. I've generally done each care option only once a day, so she usually doesn't drop below 2/3 health. Her affection hovers near "parent" level, though possibly because of the steady diet of vegetable paste. I only feed when I get the message "she is neither hungry nor full" or anything that says she is hungry. Consequently, she's never had a stomach ache. When I feed, I've fed her only paste so far. Vegetable paste mainly, though yesterday I got my first crop of vomp carrots so I gave her a special carrot paste treat. I suspect the carrot paste had nothing to do with the "responsive" message. And yes, all status indicators are still at "poor", still no increase.

I'll be carefully watching my mule's chocobos to see if they get the same message in a few days. So far all I've managed to confirm as that one does not need a chocobo in order to finish the white hankie quest, as one of my mules can't even ride. She just ran across a few zones and it was fine.

Additionally, both characters in San d'Oria have made friends with Air, and my Windurst chocobo has made friends with Spring. I would bet my whiskers that if I had a Bastok mule they'd meet Blood.

Demonkiller, the answer is that nobody knows yet. Your best bet is going to be to grab an egg and start raising it, and discover along with the rest of us how it's going to go.

As a clue though, the boy in the Jeuno stables talks about inheritance with different pedigrees. In particular, his mention of getting different results with different partners, and of having a trait show in the grandchild but not the child, is consistent with mendelian inheritance. This suggests that when Square said they were going to be "realistic", they really meant it. So presumably what you would need to do would be to find chocobos that carry the blue gene, and breed them together and hope the child inherits a blue gene from each parent. As to how the genes are distributed in wild birds, and whether the various color genes are placed on the same or different loci, well, we really don't know. But there's no way to figure it out except by trying at the moment.

My mule's chocobo recieved the "feeling perky" message today, on her 9th day. I have been occasionally giving her a little more affection (sometimes watching over 2 or 3 times instead of 1) than my main's bird. The description by the stable master seems to indicate that this is the critical level of affection, or some such thing. While my birds affection levels are always high, the cutscene and the change to the watch over action indicate that it must be important somehow. If only I knew some stories to try to teach. At least I now know that it doesn't happen after a set amount of days, as on my first it happened on day 12 instead of 9. The only other difference is that my first chocobo (12 day) has had one extra day of basic care, and the rest have been walks. The second (9 day) has had music every day after hatching. I suspect it's more about affection than it is about precise care schedules, though spending a lot of time resting might change that. None of my chocobos have rested so far.

My other mule met the friend he met before for the second time today. I didn't get a story, but it did happen on the same day (Windsday) that he originally met Air. I only wish I had been keeping better track when my main's chocobo made her friend. ^^; It seems plausible that one would meet the same friend on the day they originally met. Has anyone else had this occur? My main hasn't met her friend a second time despite going on a walk on Windsday as well, making me wonder whether the various cities friends are tied to days at all. There is a much stronger case for them being tied to city:

Chocobo 1: San d'Oria -- Air -- ???
Chocobo 2: San d'Oria -- Air -- Windsday
Chocobo 3: Windurst -- Spring -- Darksday

I was surprised, but it looks like the "feeling perky" message is only temporary! Today checking on my main chocobo, I got the main message "Your chocobo has had its fill and has calmed down." Which means I have a new theory... know how the chocoguy says you should only feed worms at a certain time? Well, I'm pretty sure that this is it! If anybody has any worms or worm paste, that might be the thing to try. Such a special event must have some very interesting connotations--maybe certain things require the use of worms correctly, since it's not as easy as using other foods.

My choco is about 13days old and I messed up a bit earlier on in raising him. But recently I've straightened out his schedule and guess I've been kind of militaristic. Alternating between letting him Take a Walk and Basic Care his condition now has "It is Ill-tempered, making it ideal for military use."

I don't know if that's good or bad, but I think it's interesting and adds to discussion ^^;.

I got the feeling perky today, too. In addition, it has a personality now:
Zopago : It has a rather enigmatic personality, making it difficult to know what the animal is thinking.

However, I still cannot tell it a story, either from the caring menu or from the care plan menu. How annoying.
