from that page, it looks alot like SE is ripping off monster rancher for the growth style lol and if thats the case, yeah if ya want advanced chocos ur gona have to breed em and even when breeding its luck based aka, you can have like a 0.1% chance to get the best maybe but takes forever :/ my hidden choco dig is already lv 6... getting hectic on the fields ugh~

After I got the white hankerchief, all I did was wait a few Vana'diel days (I went afk for about an hour and a half), zoned, talked to Pulonono and she asked for the hankerchief back. I don't think riding a chocobo is necessary, just letting some days pass.

I got the story 36 hours ago, but i still can't find an option to tell it to my chocobo. I think you may have to wait until more options open up at the adolescent stage.

I can also confirm that after I did a Bastok --> Jeuno lost choco quest I flew back and the trainer took back the hankie with my scent on it. There was no immediate change in my choco's condition but hopefully it will feel better after the 24-hour mark rolls around.

Ok, here's what I know so far. My choco started out from a BIT egg I purchased in Jeuno. It hatched after 4 days. It is male. Day 1 after it hatched, I fed it gausebit greens and 2 San Dorian Carrots (both can be purchased in South Sandy). Day 5 took it for a few walks (and made a friend during 3rd walk) and fed it the same. Day 6, I finally got my first "change". It said that my choco was ill-tempered (guess I'm a bad parent) and said it would be ideally suited for use in the military. Since I have been leveling BST (lvl 36 now) in Bib. Bay I had a few lizard eggs so I made a few vegie pastes. Cooking this caps at lvl 21 or so I've heard. Yesterday after giving my choco 2 veg. paste and 1 carrot (it was starving) my choco's affinity for me increased from "likes you a lot" to "views me as its parent". Each paste increases its affinity for you 1 level. I still have no idea on how increasing affinity will affect the choco in the long run, but I only hope it can be a good thing. Will post more as I find.

My chocobo also met a friend on a walk, who I believe was named "Sparky" or something like that. A linkshell mate's chocobo met a friend named "Air" ... Could the friends our chocobos meet be indicative of the weather they will prefer later on (i.e., Sparky => Lightning; Air => Wind)? Just a thought ...

My chocobo just met Air too (on a short walk in Sandoria) and now that you mention it... it was windsday at the time, so maybe there is something to it.

I think I solve the chocobo sleeping issue...

Actions that i did:
1) Ride on a rented chocobo until i got kicked off
2) I spoke to my NPC.

Pulonono>> That should be enough! Hand over the white handkerchief now.
Pulonono>> Hm...yes...the chick should be able to sleep well with this...

3) I guess i'll check my Chocobo tommorow ^-^

It needs yoru scent not the scent of a chocobo jsut hold onto it a couple VAn...days and give it back.

Well so far it seems that the freind you meet might be based on the city your doing your chocobo raising from, as a theory, but so far ive heard 4 freind names Air, Blood, Sparky, and Spring, and 4 doesnt go into 3.

I had a Faintly Warm egg, and it hatched as a Female, All her stats were 'poor', and she had no favorite weather condition, and was completly full. =)

I took her on a few walks, met Air in sandoria, i decided not to deplete her energy to much, the thought that she might get ill becuase it goes to low is defintly on my mind, for now i put her to rest.

from what i could tell, taking for a short walk depleted 25% of their energy bar, and Watching over them depletes 1% of their energy bar.

Day 5: Chocobo is feeling slightly sick. NPC asked for Tokopekko Wildgrass.. traded it and still slightly ill. Ran out of Tokopekko so I tried Garidav Wildrass. Still ill!! Its now full so I don't want to feed it until later... I hope it will be okay... I don't know what I did wrong but I feel bad. I want to raise it right. Im using the egg from 75 ISNM.. maybe the harder it is to raise has something to do with its breed. if anyone can help me with my chocobos illness, I will truly appreciate it.

I think it does and you can uses potions too, not sure which one I'm guessing if it gets sick you can use a potion that cures Virus or Poison or some junk, that would make sense, if it works..

I also befriended Blood on a walk. Later, Blood and the Bastok Chocobo NPC (Zopago) I saw again, and then a 3rd time while walking my chocobo. The third time I received a key item, Story of a worrysome chocobo. There are 5 different chocobo stories, it appears.

I'm guessing that telling the story will be an option in a few days, when the chocobo matures more.

My chocobo needed Topekko Wildgrass today, too. I'm guessing they take a day or two to start feeling better, I'd caution against feeding them too much or the wrong item.

Also note that there is an NPC at each of the stables that will tell you what each of the chocobo foods/remedies is for. I didn't realize that until it was pointed out to me a few days ago. :)

So I did the Jeuno quest for my egg. My fiance bought his egg from the NPC. His ended up starving, slept an entire earth day, and then became ill. He was very unhappy about spending 100k on Tokopekko Wildgrass... which is pretty absurd. I guess he's better now. But he hadn't been very happy. My chocobo on the other hand, LadyDestruction (yes, I named her that), was doing great up until I just checked on her a few minutes ago. She wants to be with me all the time, and earlier today it said she was ill-tempered and ideal for military use. But now it no longer says the ill-tempered thing. She had been gulping down her food and loving it. Now she's crying at night and munching weakly at her food. I just got the handkerchief, so I'll probably return it in the morning. I've been giving her a little bit of everything to eat, but I think the problem may be that I'm overfeeding her. Should I not be feeding her till she's completely full? Maybe just till she's a little hungry, or neither hungry nor full? She'll usually take two things when she's hungry till she's full, so maybe I should stick to one? I usually take her on a walk once a day and look over her 5-8 times or so till her stamina bar is at about 50%. I don't let it get past that coz I imagine that can't be good for her. LadyDestruction hasn't made any friends on her walks yet tho. My fiance's did but I don't know what the name was. I am growing a variety of things but they seem to be taking forever. It's been a few days and they haven't asked for a crystal yet. I think they need to sell more than just the Gysahl Greens from NPC's. People are entirely too greedy with the prices they're charging for the food they grow. 60k for one carrot... 100k for a clump of grass.... come on. But anyway.. I'm rambling. Basically, should I not be feeding her till she's full? I can imagine that might not be real good for her.

Veggie paste is lvl 21 cook (which seems to be the best from what i've heard), you could probably make it by lvl 17ish or so. Hope this helps :D

Actually noone has really confirmed sparky... he said he met a friend, and i think his name was Sparky, or something like that.... not too reliable, it was probably Sping.

Simply rest your chocobo for a couple days. All those high priced grasses and elixers are for profit only. My chocobo was sick I rested him now he is strong and healthy. Dont give into the "special diet needs".

True, I'm not 100% sure it was Sparky ... it could have been Spring ... The idea that the friend they met was related to what element they would like later on just popped into my head when a friend's chocobo met a chocobo named "Air," and then I thought my chocobo's friend may have been "Sparky." I seem to have read somewhere, however, that your chocobo will take a liking to whatever weather conditions you most often take him for walks in. Because weather conditions aren't shown (at all? often? not sure ... I forget, but it's irrelevant to the point I'm getting at) in the starter areas, you need to pay attention to the weather forecaster and take your chocobo for walks accordingly. Or so I recall reading ... I'm sorry I can't remember where I read that ... it may have been an NPC, or it could have been another forum (or even this one because yes, I'm that scatter-brained >.<). Anywho, I suppose we'll confirm/disprove this as time goes on. Just something to think about when you're planning to take your chocobo for a walk outside town, or as you make notes in your chocobo journal if you keep one.
