Blitz Buffalo

From:FINAL FANTASY XI

Blitz Buffalo

Did you enjoy the Sunbreeze Festival, kupo?
We expected it to bring cool breezes to Vana'diel, but somehow it's as hot as ever.

But I have good news, kupo!
The M.H.M.U. has come up with yet another cool festival to beat the heat--Blitz Buffalo!

You all know about buffalos, right?
They're big, black beasts that inhabit the Uleguerand Range. We moogles were able to move them to areas outside of several nations using special magic, kupo!

Eh? Did you just grumble something about "troublemakers"? That word isn't in our moogle vocabulary, kupo.

Anyway, now is your time to shine, adventurers! Chase down the buffalos and snag the red sashes from their horns! Let the Beastmen bask in the wisdom and courage of the nations, kupo!

However...take care, kupo.
The buffalos have grown rather upset watching the red sashes swaying from their horns. Sometimes you may start running after a buffalo, only to end up being the one chased! You wouldn't want to be sent flying into the clouds, would you? On the other hand, the breeze up there might be rather refreshing...if you live to enjoy it, kupo...

So, do you have enough courage to provoke one of the giant beasts? What's that? It sounds extremely dangerous? Don't worry--you'll be fine! Live for the moment, right, kupo?

Live on the edge...kupo...

Actually, we moogles gave the event a trial run ourselves and had a blast!
The sweat around our ears and the pounding of our chests during the hunt... It was a real rush, kupo!

Facing the blood-chilling glare of the buffalo...knowing what must be done... Ohhh, it makes me shiver just thinking about it, kupo!

That relieved gasp of freedom after barely escaping a buffalo's enraged charge...then turning back to seize the chance... I...I just can't take this anticipation, kupo!
Um, anyway! J-just make sure to participate!
Well then... Until next time, kupo!!!

[Event Details]
This event is scheduled to commence on August 25, 2005 at 17:00, and will last until September 5, 2005 at 0:00 (PDT).

[Event Locations]
- Southern San d'Oria
- Northern San d'Oria
- Bastok Mines
- Bastok Markets
- Windurst Waters
- Windurst Woods

Is it just me, or is it a little odd that Sarutabaruta/Gustaberg/Ronfaure aren't on that list? . . . could this mean that they might release the monsters inside the city, or (more likely) just place moogles there to initiate the quest?

I can just picture zoning out of the Windurst mog house to find a buffalo looming over me. /panic

Y'know, when someone said there was going to be a bullfighting event after Summerfest, I thought they were being sarcastic.

I Stand Corrected.

(though I must admit the thought of an enraged buffalo stampeding through South San d'Oria is oddly appealing to me... What's this about being thrown sky-high?)

Enmity is hatred such as might be felt for an enemy. That being said + enmity helps you keep hate and - enmity usually on mage gear help keeps the hate away.

Enmity is a mutual hatred you andthe monster have. Having +enmity is like antagonizing the monster. Basically make the monster attack only you. Every character gains enmity from certain actions they initiate, kind of "antagonizing" the monster. So in a party when you see a monster go after a mage, just consider his enmity+1% everytime he casts a spell. Its basically what the dude above said, he missed a lil bit tho.

Nothing is listed as far as actual reward items; they never are in the introductory news announcements (although this one gets pretty explicit when it talks about how players will "Chase down the buffalos and snag the red sashes from their horns".)

It's assumed that these items will be the Red Sash and what appears to be the HQ version of it, the Dash Sash, given the way these events have played out in the past. We'll know for certain on Thursday!

Dash Sash would be nice for THF's SATA to put more hate onto trick partner.

Yay, now my frantic runs through San d'Oria are going to be even more fun!
I'll have to avoid buffalo AND the angry mob that forms when I start teasing about Prince Trion's mullet (Um, all hail Prince Trion, and may he get the crown! And a haircut! Ow, hey, think you can remove that spear from my chest? It's starting to hurt...)

Seriously though, if those things are just stampeeding around at will, theres going to be a lot of bodies lying around. People with bazaars, people AFK, new adventurers....

Now we can only sit back and hope that it will be an event like the Christmas Treants from the 1st year of the NA release where they beat everyone up and have 30 million hit points... <fun, can i have it?> <please.>
(sounds like you will have to sub or be THF and steal the prizes though, doesn't it?)

what is enmity

It's been answered incorrectly a few times already. Enmity in FFXI is one of the many hidden stats. Much like Accuracy or Ranged Attack.

The Enmity stat determines how Much hate your actions produce. Exactly how much is up for speculation. It's also unknown if each class (or even race) has its own Enmity score. There are also thoughts that Charisma affects Enmity. It's all unknown.

What *is* known is that there are very few ways at low levels to attain Enmity + gear. The few methods are: Cache-nez, (the new) Red/Dash Sash, Pumpkin Head II, Dorado Sushi, and Baron's Chapeau. Due to the new way Utsusemi works, lower level ninjas should probably not be without *at least* one of these items.

Considering that Dorado Sushi is 40k a stack, and that using a Cache-nez means one cannot use an Emp' Pin, the Dash Sash is a very appealing gear. (Esp. true considering all the ninja has to sacrifice is a fairly useless Warrior's Belt.)

You can always macro in the cache-nez for provoke, and then the emp's hairpin right back in.

/equip head "Cache-nez"
/ja "Provoke" <t>
/wait 1
/equip head "Empor--- hairpin"

And that will give the provokes a bigger hate value at least.

I just found NM "Toro" outside of Jeuno in Sauromugue. I attacked him and he hit me with a strong knockback attack that did no damage, but he seems to have had some dealt to him. When the attack animation ended I was warped to Port Bastok!!!!1 I was very mad until my LS said something about this event....maybe I should read POL a little more often, eh?
My theory is that it's going to be somewhat like the xmas trees. But you only get one hit, then you're warped. And the last person to hit/kill the mob gets the drop.
We'll see.

Just killed a Toro in Sauromugue Champaign with my friend Aerithia, on Phoenix. The Toros won't hurt you but if you attack them they'll wham you like 20 feetand continue chasing you until they zone you with that. We used Predator Claws(her) and Slugshot/barrage(me). We took off about 22% each time with this. After the Toro is dead, a ??? will pop where it died. Touch it. You get a Red Sash. The ??? disappears after about 10 seconds.
