December 2005 FFXI Patch Compilation of Info

The Final Fantasy XI update on December 12, 2005 brings some additions to the game at the high end, primarily with new Dynamis zones. A wide array of expansions to the NPC Fellowship system are also part of this patch, along with new crafting key items and foods. This compilation of info will eventually list all the pertinent information on the additions and changes to the game provided by the patch, and the followup December 20, 2005 patch. (Previous patch compilations of info can be found in the News Highlights.)

Relic +1 Armor
A new set of armor was added with this patch, a Relic +1 armor set that is made up of upgraded Dynamis Artifact armor. This armor is obtained from Sagheera, who also does the AF+1 upgrades. To obtain an Relic +1 armor piece, four types of items are needed -- to see what exactly is required to upgrade a specific Relic armor piece, talk to Sagheera and select that you are interested in upgrading Relic armor. The four types of items required to obtain a Relic +1 armor item are: The original Relic armor piece; these are occasionally dropped in the old Dynamis zones, and may drop in the three newly added Dynamis areas as well. A specific crafted item (this can be a newer item like a square of Ovinnik Leather, or an older item like a Gold Ingot.) Between 20-30 pieces of ancient currency, which drop in the various Dynamis zones; this is not the Ancient Beastcoin item used in the AF+1 upgrades, but the currency used to upgrade Relic weapons: Byne Bills, Whiteshells, and Bronzepieces. The appropriate Relic +1 Armor Ragged Item, that matches the Relic armor being upgraded; these drop from the three new Dynamis zones. Once all those items are traded to Sagheera, she will "send the armor away"; at the next weekly Conquest Ranking on Sunday, you will be able to obtain the newly upgraded relic armor from her. All of these new armor Relic +1 armor pieces are level 75 equipment, and provide 1 more defense and marginally better stats, compared to the standard Dynamis Artifact armor.

Food
A number of new food items were added, as well as edible crafting materials that are used to make them. Two new Cooking key item tools introduced in this patch are used to craft many of these new foods items: Stewpot Mastery, which costs 30000GP; Patissier, which costs 8000GP. There are some unusual additions to synthesis Cooking items in this patch, with a number of second-tier High-Quality items (icons with a blue background) added to the game. Some of these are from entirely new recipes, while others are older recipes that have been changed to use these new items. There are also some Exclusive food items that are rewards from a Fellowship NPC quest. It is important to note that some of the food added in this patch will affect group members, when it is used. These food items are all made with the two new Cooking tools listed above, and are marked in our database with the Group Food Effects effect. This is a regular food effect: when you eat one of these items, everyone in your group nearby you, who does not already have a food effect on, will be given that effect. It will not overwrite other food effects that are already active, and other food will not overwrite this. It is important to be careful when using this food, that you don't apply the effect to party members who do not wish to have it! The details on these food items are probably not entirely complete; if you have further data on new food stats please leave feedback on the discussion boards.
