FFXI and PlayOnline Login Difficulties

Massive server problems have cropped up, both in PlayOnline and the game servers. The announcements listed below can be seen in the PlayOnline FFXI News section, where official announcements are always posted. (As of this posting, the PlayOnline web servers are overloaded as well; it appears whatever the problem is, it's affecting all of their servers.)

Update: Server maintenance information added, and extended twice.

PlayOnline Emergency Server Maintenance Completed (Oct. 10)

We have experienced login difficulties with PlayOnline during the time shown below. The login difficulties have been addressed with the maintenance that was conducted on Oct. 9, 2005 from 21:30 to Oct. 10, 2005 4:00 (PDT). We will keep the situation under surveillance and continue to work on the improvement.

We realize that many players were inconvenienced due to this problem, and we apologize for the length in recovery time.
