-Also, Utsusemi: Ni grants four shadows to NIN main and three shadows for NIN sub. Increasing your Ninjutsu magic skill by gear or merits does not change this for NIN sub.

Creates shadow images that each absorb a single attack directed at you.

-As of an early 2005 patch, shadow images when absorbing an attack now reduce a player's enmity a little bit by each image taken, it was the opposite previously.

-May overwrite Utsusemi: Ichi to reset the amount of shadow images back to 3. Utsusemi: Ichi however, cannot overwrite Utsusemi: Ni even when the amount shadow left is less than 3. Therefore, Most ninja or jobs which sub ninja will cancel Utsusemi: Ni's effect while in the middle of casting Utsusemi: Ichi to reduce the chances of getting hit while casting.

-ga spells when cast onto a player protected by Utsusemi will erase the entire Utsusemi effect regardless of how many shadow images are left. The character will also take the effect (poisonga etc.) or damage of the spell regardless.

-Utsusemi will protect a player from most of the AoE(Area of Effect) attacks. However, some AoE attacks will damage the player even when utsusemi is cast. The amount of shadows lost due to AoE attacks is affected by the player's ninjutsu skill. Some attacks will also entirely ignore utsusemi and damage the player.

-When a player with utsusemi up is hit by a ranged attack, a shadow will be used to protect the player regardless of evasion.

(Fun Fact) Utsusemi means "Cicada", as in the cast off outer shell of a bug. It's a rather artistic meaning when one considers the spells' use. The tool for this spell, "Shihei", means paper soldier. This alludes, presumably, to a paper decoy.
