The Sunbreeze Festival
From the
Official FFXI Site
(July 18):
The Sunbreeze Festival
The Sunbreeze Festival will be coming to Vana'diel on July 25th! The main event, Azimuth Circle, will begin on August 1st.
The days just keep getting hotter and hotter! But according to our sources in the Mog House Management Union (M.H.M.U.), the officials from each nation have decided to hold another festival to beat the heat! Yes, the Sunbreeze Festival is back with its upbeat music and dancing to bring cool breezes down from the heavens to Vana'diel.
The rumor is out, and the nations are getting into the festive mood. Volunteers from various shops and guilds have gathered to create town decorations and fireworks for the festival, and the moogles are out searching the nations of Vana'diel for Rakapopo Dancers. The goldfish scooping merchants are also hard at work mass-producing super scoops that break under the weight of particularly jumpy fish.
And of course, the master alchemist Azima is hard at work on-you guessed it-Azimuth Circle II! Once again, adventurers will need to team up and maintain close communication in order to find a specific target. It should be easy with good teamwork, but this time the event will be held outside of town, so you will have to keep a lookout for monsters as well!
Azima claims that she decided to hold the event outdoors this year to add an extra dimension of excitement. So with your heart racing at the end of the day, you can don a yukata together and have an even greater appreciation for the beautiful sight of fireworks.
Nights filled with music, dancing, fireworks, and games... Be sure not to miss this year's Sunbreeze Festival!

Hm, this is the first time I have been around with this event. Anyone mind explaining how it exactly works, and what you do? Thanks.

The moogles are in the process of planning another fun-filled Sunbreeze Festival!
This implies that this isn't the first time this event has been presented. If you look in the past headlines section for July of 2005 you will find a detailed description of this event.

This is indeed the third year that some varient of the Sunbreeze Festival has been in the game. See
here
and
here
for the information on the previous year's events; the upcoming event will likely be similar to those.
We'll know more in a couple weeks!

Ah, thank you. It looks quite fun, since I already am a huge fan of the Fishing aspect. I cant wait.
Also, one last question. Can you skill up fishing doing this? I assume not, but figured I'd ask! ^^

This event (as it was previously done, at least) is open and the same for everyone; no fishing skill is required or used. So, it wouldn't be skilled up through this.

is this the one with the fish scooping?
what event was the clamming gear last year??
i think the regular yuks are like 10k
the +1 ones are 25k? they were sold by the event moogles under the tents - so like in port bastok, north sandy, and windy waters

well last year there were two yukatas: one was a basic one that sold for 10k, and there was another called the lord's/lady's yukata which gave an increased goldfishing ability making the fishing aspect of this event a bit easier, that yukata sold for about 50k

I love these mini-events. I've gt a Mog House fileld with Rare/Ex items that really have no proactical use.
Can't wait to get on with this one.

I remember this event lots of fireworks and great fun scooping goldfish. If I am correct the Rare/Ex rewards were the swimsuits used for clam digging.
If someone has posted this info sorry for the repetition.
See you all at the Knightwell in WRonfaure!

i'm hoping that any new event items have a bit more usage potential than the yukatas as they really only help during the actual event... the clamming gear from last year actually could be useful if you enjoyed clamming (which could be done year-round.) i liked the valentine's rods which could be used to give reraise to a party member ^^ maybe we will get something along those lines which does something semi-useful like regen/refresh

my yuka from last year is in that storage NPC (there's one in bastok port and one in windy waters that i know of - dunno where the sandy one is) - so if you buy one this year you can store it when you're done with it (costs like 500 gil to get it out of hock i think)
the swimsuits(+1) were from a game involving dolls that told you what direction your partner needed to go to get to the next doll.. er compasses to dolls - trade dolls - give doll to moogle - get trunks or whatnot

Theres an update the day before, so I guess we'll be seeing some more event items.
As a quick note, how is this website about to find out what items have been added from the ones downloaded? Do you have a list of new files and look it up or something?

Hopefully there will be new items for the event; they could just be changing the way it's run compared to last year, but using the same items.
We run through the FFXI data files after every patch and post info on all the items/quests/etc that have been added. See the
April 2006 FFXI Compilation of Info
as an example.

Last year the "best" reward for goldfishing points was the exclusive
Goldfish Set
which allows you to create a
Goldfish Bowl
(moghouse furniture).
