And so it begins, officially! Presumably some screenshots from the show will be showing up online quite soon; if any are seen on other sites beyond the official one, post them here and we'll get them into the news.

Are you guys ready for this?? After going through a Korean site for an hour... I found the video. Click on the link below and rightclick the link that ends with 11' and save it.

http://ruliweb.dreamwiz.com/data/rulinews/read.htm?page=1&num=13865&find=&ftext=

What is revealed?? The new job is definitely a blue mage... it shows it doing 2 enemy moves (the fire breath is a raptor move I believe and the webs are either a crawler move or spider move). I went through it frame by frame and also found new RNG armor or another entirely new job. Also very exiting.. when they show a ship that looks like the plane old Selbina/Mhuara ship... look at the background. That looks to me like a new city the size of Jeuno. You have it here first, this information I have just given you has not yet been posted anywhere. (Actually ancientdefenders.com got it first.. but you have it second at least ;)

I'm REALLY hoping they hold off on the copious amounts of level-capped missions this time... Find a way to make them challenging without caps, or deal with the fact that noobs can't do them until high levels.

Thanks for the info, everyone. The news has been updated with links to the trailer and pictures from it, as well as some tidbits of info from the show. There will probably be similar pieces of info coming out during the show, but major large statements will likely not show up yet. If you do see any further official statements regarding the new expansion, let us know!

I really hope they have areas that are PvP for members of different home nations. Have these areas level capped once you enter the zone, you are capped at level then after brief period you are able to PvP other members. I know it's something very different from FFXI but is pretty standard in other mmorpg and I think it would really add an element of home nation pride and rivarly (like the story says there is but really doesn't exist in game). Also for other job ideas I would like to see chemist (get /ja items that you can mix and do certain things)

A few speculative thoughts on the timing of this, based on the little bit that we know so far:

Coincidentally, today is exactly one year after Chains of Promathia was released in Japan; it showed up in North America 5 days later. The official info on Chains of Promathia came out at the end of April, and that expansion pack was released roughly 6 months later. If the same holds true here, we can expect the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion to come out in March 2006. This would make sense, given that the X360 FFXI will probably be fully live across the world around the beginning of 2006, and they'll want a couple of months after that before unloading a new expansion pack.

Further speculation: assuming that time-table holds, we're most likely 3 major patches away from the next expansion. We know about the one in early October, which will probably have the items to set up some sort of fall event. Unless they're really planning ahead, they'll need another game patch sometime in December, with items and such for the Christmas/New Year's event(s), and to add whatever is necessary to make the X360 version work with everything else. (We'll no doubt see a flurry of "fixing" patches whenever the X360 FFXI is going into beta and then live, as the accomodate the new console.) After that, we're likely to see a very major patch put in a few weeks before the expansion is released, just as we did with Chains of Promathia, to add the new items and some new features into the basic client. We know that there will be some changes on the back-end around the beginning of the year, as well, to areas such as billing; this will allow implementation of moving individual characters between servers, and maybe other unannounced additions.

Of course, this is all entirely speculation. One thing is certain: get your Promathia missions done now, or risk being overwhelmed by the flood of content down the road! :)

holy crap, blue mage.
has SE made any statement that its a "blue mage"?
because other then it being in blue robes (and neat looking turban) it looks more like gogo (the mimic from ff3/6),

if we define "blue mage = using powers of others" that makes gogo a blue mage.
but if we define "blue mage == using monster powers" that would have made gau a blue mage.
oddly, 6 had a defined blue mage, the old man, statgo.

and my big concern is how one gets new "power/abilities"
my vote is 1 man bcnm type, vs something having that power
(ala trial size avatars)

my bet on tla is BLU.

but, in any case... only time will tell.

i agree with cuer's timetable.

i just hope SE doesnt try to screw both US and EU with a delayed launch of TAU, like CoP, cuz that would really really be a bad idea, the game is tetering on dieing now.
and alot of people arent happy with CoP (mostly the prommy thing and then all the level capped stuff)

and further more, where's my PIR? huh?

(oh, did anyone in their right mind NOT think that the name was for the expasion when they found it in the copyright office?)

TGS: Square Enix Announces New FFXI Expansion
09.16.05 - 11:48 AM

Square Enix debuted the third expansion of its popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XI at Tokyo Game Show today. Titled Treasures of Aht Urhgan, the new expansion pack was only demonstrated through a short trailer. Treasures of Aht Urhgan will add several new areas (a massive phantom ship, a gloomy swamp area, a grassland area with beautiful autumn leaves), a new storyline, new sea routes and the new Blue Mage job. This new job comes with an oriental dress and, of course, Blue Magic. When a monster uses a particular attack against a Blue Mage, he or she will be able to learn said attack and afterwards use it just like a standard magic spell. Square Enix also confirmed that Treasures of Aht Urhgan is directed by map planner Kouichi Ogawa.
Final Fantasy XI: Treasures of Aht Urhgan has yet to receive an official release date.

BTW: how the heck did the Allakhazam post show up before mine up at the top? When I submitted that info it was 30 minutes before that Alla thread even existed. Does the moderater radomly go through posts that were submitted and decide which ones to approve first or something? I'm pretty damn sure my info was submitted before the post about a thread that didn't even exist yet.
