Azimuth Circle

From:FINAL FANTASY XI
Jul. 26, 2005 17:00 [PDT]

Azimuth Circle

Master, master!
How are you holding up in this horrible heat?
You've made the Sunbreeze Festival a smashing success, kupo!
And now it's time for the main event--Azimuth Circle!

Azimuth Circle has rather complex rules, so I'll have to drill you beforehand, kupo.
First off, the game can only be played in pairs--everyone must be in a party of two. So you must begin by searching for a partner.
Coupling with a good friend would be ideal, of course. But even if you aren't exactly the most popular master...no problem! Just ask around, kupo!

And then, um, ummm...oh yeah! After that, just talk to a moogle with your partner and say you want to start the game, kupo!
Then the moogle will tell you where your partner should go. It will also tell your partner where you should go! So you and your partner have to relay information between each other to figure out where to head next, kupo. Each of you should reach your checkpoint with good teamwork!
Examine your checkpoint to find a hidden compass. The compass will point in the direction that your partner should go, so both of you should use this information to help each other out. Work together to find all of your checkpoints and each of you will find a doll at the end of the trail, kupo!

Last but not least, trade your doll with your partner and then trade the doll that he found to the moogle, kupo. End game--the moogle will give you beautiful swimwear to beat the heat as a reward for your efforts! Nothing like going for a dip in the ocean in this scorching weather, kupo!

Ah... I almost forgot! I have a message here from Azimuth of the Alchemists' Guild! Here's what the inventor of Azimuth Circle had to say, kupo:
The name 'Azimuth Circle' comes from this gadget we set on a compass in the old days so we could verify directions proper. I'm not vain enough to name a game after myself! Anyway, I hope you and your partner become good friends while playing. Maybe you can even invite them to join you again later wearing the rewards you gained from playing. I wonder what games you could play with them then...haw haw...
Ahem...yes, Ms. Azimuth is certainly a unique old... Anyway! Where was I, kupo? Oh yeah, Azimuth Circle. Please join us in the festivities, kupo! Master, master, get up and get out there! It's time to find a partner for Azimuth Circle!

It would seem to make sense that the +1 version of the swimwear should be attainable by completing the "map compass course" within a certain amount of time. Just a theory...

ok, the +1s improve clamming results on the islands in bibiki bay.

Also, for this event, you can only check 3 different checkpoints, if you don't check the right ones, you lose.

it's best to have someone stay by the moogle and direct. when your partner is near a checkpoint they think is right, ask the moogle and see.

you have to do 2 different areas in a town to get the 2 different pieces. from what i hear the +1s are granted after you play alot

You can see the specifics of the items rewarded and used in the quest, in the July 2005 FFXI Patch Compilation of Info.

The new armor rewards (both normal and HQ versions) are in the New Armor section; they are the Tops, Gilets, and Maillots for the body equipment, and the Shorts and Trunks legwear. The dolls used are presumably the new Pumimi Doll and Hopipi Doll.

You can get one peice of armor per zone of a city,
So in bastok you can get Both piece in Port Bastok and Bastok Mines,

From what i hear in order to get the +1 you must do it in a 2nd nation,
after that i am going to try a 3rd and see what my results are

100% way to get +1
Do the event in 2 cities,
Goto one city and do the quest in both zones,
Then goto another city and when you do the quest in both zones you will be rewarded with +1 Gear :)
Havn't tested 3rd city but guessing it will give crap event prizes

Mirriam now has the walkthrough written up in the Azimuth Circle Event news item. If any items are obtained beyond the new armor and the chocobo tickets, be sure to post it here so we can note that as well.

hey i havent got to try this yet but i got a wierd idea... Notice the 2 different dolls obtained in this quest mentions bein a part of triplets. The 3rd in these triplets is a doll that drops in batallia downs for another quest. I wonder if there is something to do with having all three of them. I am gonna try this myself when i get a chance and will post if i learn of anything new.

[Note: You may only check a few checkpoints, so it's best to be sure of a checkpoint before you select it. Once you get to about 3 "checks" of checkpoints, you will no longer be able to check them, and both you and your partner will need to return to the Moogle to cancel the game, and start over.

It should also be mentioned that you can in fact check the same Checkpoint MULTIPLE times. Just to be sure I checked the same Checkpoint (Barrel in P.Bastok) over 30 times while my partner ran around the zone and I watched it say N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW and back to N. Same thing with Batboy, have him check where your partner is on his magic <pos> checker until they are at the correct checkpoint.

Hope this helps
