This is for discussion of the change in the July 19 patch to Ranged Attacks, as mentioned in the patch notes: The damage and accuracy of a player’s ranged attack are now calculated based on the distance of the player from the monster. This determination varies from weapon to weapon, as does the ideal distance for maximum damage. In addition, the higher the monster’s level is with regard to the player, the less damage will be dealt with a ranged attack.

There are other stickied topics on this board for other areas, including: New Recipes, New NM/BCNMs, Battle Changes, and a Main July 19 Patch Discussion. Please use the appropriate topics to comment.

I've been messing around w/ this a bit.

My Power Xbow seemed to work best a good distance from mob. Standing Right next to it was a terrible hit to accuracy. I had War/nin w/ two archer knife and two beetle ring and I literally could Not hit a Yhoator Mandra standing next to it. And when I did, my bloody bolt would only drain like 12 HP anyways.

So, I went back a bit after the other War/nin got hate. Worked wonders. Hard to describe how far I was back. I was still in AoE sleep range. Probably *just* within range. I hit almost everytime and my bloodies drained the usual 40-60 HP.

On Throwing weapons, it seems the closer you are the better. I was camping Lizzy, and my Chakram seemed to deal the most damage to place holders when I was literally standing "inside" of the monster.

I have yet to test archery. But my assumption is that you will need to stand even farther back than xbow. Also, I think this update makes SAM/RNG void.
