The Doll Festival

From:FINAL FANTASY XI

The Doll Festival

Get ready once again for Vana'diel's Doll Festival!

The Doll Festival is a solemn Far Eastern celebration in which displays of dolls and sweets are used to congratulate young girls on their growth.

The festival is supposed to be for young girls only, but leave it to the moogles to find a loophole. During the last Doll Festival, the M.H.M.U. (Mog House Management Union) worked with Windurst's Rhinostery to develop a special variety of rice cake that turned anyone who ate one into a little girl!

The moogles' original plan was to help grown women recapture their childlike innocence and relive the old days for a short time. In reality, however, the moogles misunderstood the event and laid down some rather unusual rules for obtaining the cakes, transforming the solemn festival into a giant fiasco! The guards were quite upset with the entire ordeal...

That wasn't enough to get the moogles down, however. Now they are responding with firm resolve:

We want to give rice cakes to the adventurers again, kupo! We learned a valuable lesson last time, so this time we'll make getting the cakes simpler. It'll be the most solemn, super festival you've ever seen!

They even seem to have managed to persuade the guards to let them try again, with their rants of how the festival started out of a desire to do good...

It doesn't end there, though.

According to separate reports, the real story is quite different. It seems that the M.H.M.U. spotted a prime business opportunity with the last Doll Festival. The reports state that the moogles are planning to advertise their rice cakes by handing out small samples, and then make a fortune selling the rest by dubious means. This seems to imply that poor management of M.H.M.U. finances has led to desperate measures, but the actual facts are enveloped in mystery.

Will the moogles' plans live up to expectations, or are they preparing a recipe for disaster?

Be sure to join in the celebrations and find out!

what exactly are the prizes from the event? Is it going to be just the cakes again, or is there another item that will be available?

Ok, after the 2nd vana 'diel day i've figured out what to do. You talk to the moogle in the started locations (same as every event) and you get a cake. The more people you have, the more cakes you get with a max of 48 (4 stacks). Once eaten, the cakes will turn you into a little child (female) of a taru, mithra, elvaan or hume. The cake describes what one you will turn into. I tried this with an alliance of about 14 people and got the max no. of cakes, so i guess its about 1 of each cake per extra perty member, although doing it solo got me 1 cake (taru).

There is a rumour that cakes avoid aggro but im yet to test it.

Another use for the cakes is to sell them (bazaa only). After the event they go from 50g each, to 100k each. I saw someone with 4x100k cakes 30mins before the event, and i doubt anyone would buy them for that much. The best timee to sell is during another event to the people in event costumes.

Apart from that, its just a bit of fun, for 30 mins or so, to run around as a different person. There may be more to the event later on (Like buying the cakes from moogles *rumour*) but for now, thats what i've concluded. Have fun.

You can buy them. There are a pair of moogles selling the cakes and firecrackers at the entrance to North Gusterberg in Port Bastok.

Time to stock to sell in my Bazaar later...

I'm always the first one to do all the events. But i find this the most useless one. What's the point? I find it "fun" when you get the first cake, but that is about it... >_>

I hope maybe that a second part of the event will soon follow. Maybe with a prize! *^^*

There are displays set up in each town (ie: Bastok port, near the fountain) where you could eat a cake and stand on the display and take a picture. Or you could stand next to the tables w/ umbrellas and chat w/ a fellow adventurer while in costume....

While the rice cakes are good for a laugh and the fireworks are fun for a couple minutes, there doesn't seem to be much point to this event other than the amusement factor. I guess people who want to be amusing themselves with the rice cakes for a long time could try to gather as many of them as possible, but that seems to be the only real objective here. I haven't been playing Final Fantasy XI for very long, but have there been festivals or other events like this (no big reward to go for) in the past? Granted, it's not as stressful as the Valentione's Day event, which makes me happy, but a reward of some kind aside from the entertainment of it would be nice. So, is this the first event with no definite reward item, or what?
