Walkthrough for Special Event - 2006-04 - Egg Hunt Egg-stravaganza
It's time again for the Easter Egg event, with a wide array of rewards and goodies! This year's event is much like last year's, with one new addition that can be obtained: the Orphic Egg. Details are listed below on how to get all the goodies.

Basic Overview:
  1. Get lettered eggs; you can get one egg per day just by talking to a Moogle, extra eggs per day by trading in other items, and up to 3 extra per day by Harvesting, Mining/Excavating, and Logging.
  2. Trade the eggs you have to other players, to get the exact ones necessary for you.
  3. Trade the eggs in specific combinations to one of the event Moogles, to get a particular reward.

Getting Eggs:
Every game day, you can talk to the Moogle and get one initial egg. (There are three event Moogles in each city zone; talk to the one in the middle to actually get the egg, as the others just provide hints.) One way to get the exact egg you need is to group with other people before you talk to the Moogle: you may then choose an egg based on the initials of the people you are grouped with (excluding yourself). So if I, Mirriam, group with Cuer and Palos, I can choose a C Egg or a P Egg. You may also get one extra egg per Vana'diel day by trading one of the following to an event Moogle: Trading a Party Egg to the Moogle will get you 2 extra eggs, and trading a Lucky Egg to the Moogle will get you 3 extra eggs. The eggs you receive will be random. If you try to trade a Warm Egg to the Moogle, he will tell you "Ku........po! I can't egg-cept such a rare item. You should take more care of your belongings, kupo!" You may also get 1 egg per day by Harvesting, Logging or Mining/Excavating; the first time you do one of those in a Vana'diel day, you'll get a random egg instead of the normal items that you could get -- in this way, you can get an extra 3 eggs per day.

Initial Egg Combinations:
There are three initial combinations that you must turn in, before you can do the more complicated ones below. The very first one is based on the first three letters of your character's name. So, for Mirriam, I need the eggs M I R. Turn the three appropriate eggs into the Moogle, and you will recieve a Chocobo Ticket or Colored Drops. If you trade in the eggs and you already have the item the Moogle wants to give you, he will tell you to sort your inventory and come back. You will not lose your eggs, however.

The next two combination sets are the 7 of a Kind and the 8 Initial Straight. The 7 of a Kind is just as it sounds, 7 of the exact same letter. The 8 Initial Straight begins with the first letter of your name, and then the next 7 letters of the alphabet. So, for Mirriam, I would need the eggs M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T. Trading these combinations to the Moogle will get you either a Happy Egg or a Fortune Egg. Note that if who have a Happy Egg or Fortune Egg from an earlier Easter Egg event, you can't get that reward again when you try to complete the 7 of a Kind or the 8 Initial Straight, since those are Rare. The Moogles are smart this year, though, and won't take your eggs if that happens.

Furniture Combinations:
There are three further combinations that will get you egg furniture items, after you've done the initial three combinations. In order to get the furniture, you need to trade the first 5 letters of the name of a region, that is owned by the country whose egg you want. Since the region closest to the three starting cities are almost always owned by that city, they're easy and common to use:
  • For the Bastokan Lamp Egg, trade the eggs G U S T A.
  • For the Windurstian Flower Egg, trade the eggs S A R U T.
  • For the San d'Orian Wing Egg, trade in the eggs R O N F A.
This does not have to be done in any particular city. So, you can get the Flower Egg in San d'Oria, as long as you trade in the right combination. Of course, you don't have to use the three newbie regions listed above; you can use any one controlled by that city. Just make sure you turn in a proper combination; trading in the wrong combination will instead provide you with a scary Beastman costume!

Orphic Egg:
The new item this year is the Orphic Egg, a throwing item that provides a handful of bonuses; the latent effect on this is activated anytime that a Bard song is active on the character holding the egg. Once you have the three initial combinations completed, obtain and turn in eggs that spell the element of the current Vana'diel day. So, on Firesday turn in the eggs F I R E. This goes as follows:
  1. Firesday - F I R E
  2. Earthsday - E A R T H
  3. Watersday - W A T E R
  4. Windsday - A I R
  5. Iceday - I C E
  6. Lightningsday - T H U N D E R
  7. Lightsday - L I G H T
  8. Darksday - D A R K
