Probably a stupid question...

I dunno if this is the spot for a question like this, but...

Okay, well, I've been an Xbox 360 FFXI player for several months now, but due to the high demand for the console and TV in my house (roomates), I decided to pick it up for PC too. I got the Vana'Diel Collections pack today, and comes with the actual version of FFXI, and two expansions, RotZ, and CoP. I do NOT have ToAU yet. My problem is that after successfully installing the POL viewer and the two expansions I do have, when I go to "play" the game, it does the version check/update, and continuously gives me an error, saying that there is a problem with the HDD data. The only explanation I can think of is that the latest version is checking for ToAU files that I obviously don't have. Is this the case? Do you need all 3 expansions to play? I'm gonna try and contact PlayOnline about it, but if anyone can shed some light in the meantime, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any and all help, and sorry for posting a ridiculous question like this here... I'm just kinda anxious. =)

P.S. Great site, guys. I love it.

It's not a stupid question, and no you do not need all three expansions to play. I have the same set-up for my pc, and have ToAU (since it came out) and have not installed it yet(Due to I use my pc for a home music studio as well, and cant afford the HDD space). I also play on my ps2, and have all the expansions for that as well, and haven't installed CoP or ToAU on it yet, and I play everyday. I would try installing FFXI the collection first, setting up the contend ids, and etc first. After checking to see if it would play, go back and install the expansions. If that doesn't work I would try giving squareenix a call.

You should be able to do play on the PC without ToAU installed as long as you stay within the bounds of the package that is installed on the PC (i.e. don't log-off in a new area, or with BLU/COR/PUP as your job, etc...) I would expect it to bark at you saying you don't have the expansion loaded, so new items will be unavailable.

Make sure you don't create a new content ID for your character. You will be able to login to both systems (one at a time) using the same content ID.

If you are getting a HDD type error and you are within the bounds of the Promathia Expansion, I would probably try a re-install on the PC, and then call S.E. if needed.

Hello,

We have 2 PS2's and one PC that we use to play FFXI on (there are three of us that play) so I imagine its the same with the 360. You can use the same content ID on multiple platforms, but not at the same time.

For example, I play on the computer, but if someone were using it, I can jump over to a PS2 and play.

A couple notes to be aware of:

1. the same content ID cannot be used at the same time. If you were logged onto your PC, and then logged onto your 360, the PC would either get logged out, or you will get a message saying that the Content ID is already in use (mostly, it logs off the machine that was first logged onto.

2. At least with PC and PS2, any macros you set up on one machine, do NOT carry over on the other. For example, if you setup a macro on the PC, them move over to a 360, the macro you made would not show up on the 360, so you will need to redo them. The same thing goes for any special markers you have placed on any of your maps.

3. For some reason, when we bounce between accounts, we have to resort all of our mog safes and inventories. Loading to different platforms seem to throw all your stuff into random order, but this does not affect your furniture for some reason.

Hope this helps.

Actually i tried the blu job on ps2 and i only have the 2 exp. packs installed on that ps2
So i really doubt that you can't have those jobs on other consoles or pc's that don't have exp. pack installed - but the new area: yes. I had Al Zahbi as a HP and when i warped [someone-helped] it said i had to log out because the whitegate pack was not installed.

Does this work from a content id created on a pc with an install of 360? is there a pol guest login? Didn't want to spend the money and find out i couldnt play on my 360 because of the account not origin not being on the 360 and there being no way to add a new one or guest login.

thx
