It all depends on which NM you are talking about, there are NMs pretty much everywhere. Some can be soloed some cannot, some drop expensive items and some drop r/e items.

Start with the small ones like Big Mouth Billy in East Ron. He spawns from the carrion worms in an area east of the Cheval River and drops a slew of stuff. There's a good guide on this site for all the NM's and where they spawn, what they drop, what level to solo them, etc...

If you're new to the game and looking for quick gil, good luck. There are lots of ways to make money in the game and hunting NM's is just one way of doing it. Almost all of them are rather time consuming. The game mirrors real life in the fact that you need money to do anything wothwhile and to make money, you usually need money.

I make my money woodworking. It took time to get my skill up to where I can make status bolts at a decent clip and I had to invest a considerable sum for the bolt heads, but I can make 60-70k a day just doing that.

The only NM I hunt on a regular basis is Tumbling Truffle in La Thiene. I usually come back empty handed for the drop from the NM, but score 3-4 stacks of shrooms which sell for 10-12K a stack. I chose that one because I can easily handle it and it isn't overcamped like a lot of NM's are. (Mostly because it's a pain in the butt to get to where he spawns).

Just about every way to make money on game takes time, it's probably one of the best things about the game. A good way to start is farming beehive chips or silk threads near windy. Start by running around starhill or something like that hacking away at crawlers and bee's. If you do a guild, which I recommend, remember to use the crafting guide on this site, and craft items a few levels above your Skill level. Crafting does require gil, and doesn't start paying untill later crafting tiers. And the last way I can think of at this moment, is BCNM's, this site provides great information for BCNMs, and it is the most adventurous way of making gil. Get yourself a team together,(of the correct jobs for the fight), discuss a strategy, use your orb, fight(or die), and split the loot.
