i am a new xbox360 player.

why is everything so expensive in this game.

i have asked around in game and other players just tell me to quest and craft. but the rewards from questing are nothing close to the amount of money you would need to buy new equipment or spells. and crafting costs money to get started.

is there a quick and easy way to make money, other than staying in a low lvl area and waiting for sellable items to drop from monsters?

Ah yes, the eternal question, how do I make a quick buck? well my advice is find an item that sells for a good bit a farm it. Bee hive chips for instance, you can slaughter bees even at low levels, sell the stacks for a decent bit. Also, crystal stacks can make decent money. Build up about 20-30k like this then invest in pickaxes. Then find yourself a good mine. Zeruhn mines is good from lvl 1 forward, around 20 you can safely mine palbourough. Keep iron, silver, platinum, darksteel, mythril, zinc, toss copper unless you bring fire crystals with you, use 4 to make a copper ingot. study the crafts, alot of guides exist that tell you how to make money while you skillup, copper ingots for instance, take little gil to make but tend to sell for 10-30k a stack depending on your server. beyond that your only hope is NMs. those are few and far between and heavily camped. good luck, we've all been where you are, we all managed to survive and prosper, you will too.

I had a somewhat similar suggestion.

First, if you are new, I would say spend some time leveling two jobs that you plan to use. Keep them relatively close in level.

For example, if you were going to be a WHM. level WHM to 5 or 6, then level BLM to 5 or 6, go back to whm and level it to 10ish, go back to Blm until 10... etc. This can also be done with MNK and War, or even Thf and Mnk, etc.

I suggest this for three reasons, one, it will help keep your initial equipment costs down. Two, it puts you ready to use your subjob as soon as you complete the quest, and lastly, its an ok source of income.

Sell your crystals and other things you get that drop, BUT save your money as much as possible.

When you can, buy yourself some fishing poles, and some insect paste and fish up moat carp.

If you are from Sandoria, you can run to the little pond in West Ronfaure (its called Knightswell on your map). Using insect balls will only fish up moat carp and items (make sure not to pull up any monsters). As another alternative, if you are from the Windy area, fishing in Windy Walls will only catch Moat Carp and the occasional Gold Carp. If you get a composite fishing pole, you dont have to worry about breaking it on the fish.

Now, the reason I advocate this approach is that it is a virtual gil mine. Moat Carp on the Cerebrus server are going for 10,000 gil per stack of 12. The insect balls go for 1000 gil per stack of 12. Its a level 11 fish, so in the begining your fishing skill will be low enough that you wont get alot of them, but within a couple of days, you should be able to easily pull up 3 or 4 stacks an hour. Thats easily 30k - 40k per hour. If you sell them in Sandoria, they go really really fast.

Just be warned, unlike the other crafts, fishing has a limit to how much you can do in a day. If you are fishing Moat Carp, at max, you can pull up 200 fish. Items and monsters count against this total.

Once you get used to the fishing system and your skill rises a bit, you can easily make about 60k an hour, and about 180k a day, just with fishing moat carp (the money gets even better with higher level fish).

Once you get a little gil saved up, you can get the gear you need to level and it also gives you the gil necessary to get into other crafts.

Hope this helps,

If your new to the game, don't worry about HQ/+1/super gear and equptment. You can do amazing things with normal equptment.
Also NPC stores are your friends, look up the armor/weapon/spell your intrested in for a level or three above yourself, if you look them up here you'll see if a NPC sells them and where the NPC is. Many items under level 20(and some above depending on the item) are often over priced on the AH. For instance on my server, the in Sandy the AH sells level 7 armor for two times the price it is from the NPC in the same town.

As to how to get gill, everyone else said what I would say/did. Remember to sort your inventory to stack the items that are droped, always have Signet on for crystals, and if you do some of your missions you'll be able to spend conquest points(gained from missions and using signet) for equiptment and weapons that(if it's not ex the green circle on the item) you can sell or use. Do not throw anything away, if you can't auction try to sell it to a NPC. (Save your beastmen seals they can be a nice source of income latter in the game)

I have another slant about the idea that someone suggested about levelling two jobs together. I completely agree with them. You should have an appropriate subjob levelled up at all times to go with your primary job. But as you starting out and before you head to the Valkrum Dunes, level all of the jobs one by one to level 10.

Why? Well, if you have signet cast upon you as you do this you will have a steady influx of crystals that you can sell and more importantly an abundance of Conquest Points. Sell the crystals or use them for crafting and build up your CP for good equipment, charging your empress band, etc. And then once you get the advaced jobs, do this with each of them as you go along. It will also give you a good supply of items you can sell, AH or turn in for fame. Beehive chips in Bastok, Silk Thread in Windurst, etc... There are a lot of ways to make money without being high level.

All of the previous posts pretty much say it all. When I first started, Moat Carp and Silk Thread were my cashcows.Moat Carp NEVER sit in the AH for too long, higher level Cooks make sushi with them. I actually made enough gil from fishing Moat Carp for 24 RLH to get all my BLM 10 spells and equipment, with LOADS left over. Also, the Clothcraft trade makes good money. You can get a lot of materials easily at that level from low lvl mobs.

One quick thing, when I started, I wrote down vendor prices of everything and average AH prices just for my own refrence, and found that I could buy a bronze zaghnal for less than 400 gil, and the AH sells them like crazy all day long for 2000 gil, and starting from there, I just saved a little here and there, and by the time I reached lvl 5-ish, I had about 100,000 gil, and thats by starting with nothing at all, and making lots of runs back and forth from vendors and the AH. But this is a bit time consuming, and boring, but if you work hard for say 2 hours, and your stuff sells fast enough, and on a good day at the right time it will, then you could have 30,000+ gil, and that is more than enough for normal equip for a while, its just a good start.

and dont forget the reverse as well. You can find stuff that sells cheaper on the AH than it does to an NPC. Buy the stuff on the AH and sell it to the NPC.

Its usually not much profit, usually between 10 gil - 250 gil at most, but it is something. Also, by the time you get fame high enough to get great prices from NPCs, you probably dont have to worry about this lol
