Just wanted to know how many people had budget agp video cards such as a 6200 nvidia or so and what kind of benchmark scores they were getting with the ffxi benchmark. pc i use sometimes to play has a 5200 and i want to get something with a little more power to it but have to stay fairly low end because of the power supply in the shuttle xpc i play on.

Well, I use a Radeon 9600 XT. By no means is this a recent or high end card anymore, but if you have a low wattage power supply like me it's about as good as you can get. I shopped around a lot at the time, and pretty much anything above this required or recommended a 300W power supply minimum. It will handle FFXI well so no problem there.

i have an Athlon XP 3000+, 1 gig of ram, and a BFG nvidia 6800 GT, its like 250 now i believe, and it works fine for FFXI, u have to relise that FFXI was designed for the PS2 not the computer, so graphics will only get so good.

im running FFXI on an AMD 2700+ with 768MB ram with an Nvida GForce FX5600 card and i run 1024x768 smoothly @ 30FPS in ToAU *including Al Zabhi and Whitegate* with settings turned all the way up (both in FFXI config and ingame settings)

Since PC version of FFXI emulates how FFXI runs on PS2, you're better off with a faster CPU than video card as the graphics are mainly processed CPU side instead of using something like Direct3D or OpenGL.

Until S.E. changes this *i severely doubt they ever will* we're screwed until someone completely rewrites the client and adds the ability to use Direct3d / OpenGL. (this wont happen due to copyright issues, Intellectual Property Rights, etc... and the fact it would be a rather large project and would take a long time to get right...)

but if you're looking for a good budget card, look around on pricewatch.com and take a look at the different cards available, and go out and read some reviews... If you're only going to play FFXI on your computer, then you'd be fine even with a GeForce MX400 chipset *this will be somewhat laggy and i wouldnt suggest running over 800x600 with this*

if you want to play Doom3 / Quake4 / Half-life2 then anything Geforce FX5200 and above will do you just fine...
