FFXI Fan Festival 2006 Info

The 2006 FFXI Fan Festival is going on through Saturday, with much new information being released there about the upcoming expansion to the game, Treasures of Aht Urhgan. Three new jobs will be added with the expansion: Blue Mage, Corsair, and the newly announced Puppetmaster job! This will bring the total number of jobs in FFXI to 18, with the release of the expansion.

Some excellent resources of information from the Fan Festival, since it will be at least a few days until everything is updated on the official Fan Festival site:
  • Two videos from the event are up at IGN: the first is the official expansion promotion video, while the second is the brief video showed with the introduction of the Puppetmaster job.
  • A great summation of the announced additions and possible changes can be found on an ffxionline.com report.
  • More of the same information, fleshed out slightly, is in the first post of an Allakhazam thread.

Further links to more information or pictures from the event can be added to the post for this news. With all these announcements, the official Square-Enix information regarding the expansion should be expanding dramatically in the next week, as well.

In the 3/10/06 Video at IGN, in the last 5 seconds of the video, they clearly show a huge creature... that strongly resembles Odin...

In that same video, there is a clear picture of Cerberus! :D
I'm pretty sure that's Odin as well, btw.

Odin and Cerberus are all well and good, but what caught my attention were the classic monsters like Flans and Iron Giants.

You can see a couple of the former walking around a new area and a party fights one for a brief moment. There's a video floating around somewhere of a Mithran Blue Mage fighting one of the latter.

WAYYYY more info than IGN. Plus info on why Necromancer didn't make the cut, info on Puppetmaster that wasn't mentioned at the panel (in fact no info was mentioned at the panel, so yay!) and LOADs of other stuff. The interview rocks too.

Of course you're going to have to do a quest for the new jobs.
I'd imagine that having the expansion and being able to access the expansion areas would be required, too...ie. the quests will be started in an expansion zone.

I very much doubt that that is Odin, it is probably from FFXII, they just included it in the last few seconds of the clip.

The official details from the developer's panel has finally been listed on the main site - it's not directly in the Post Event section, so you'll need to go to the Developer's Forum page.

A couple of the details originally posted as "possible" have been essentially confirmed in there, so it's well worth reading.
