I am having problems getting the ruby to drop. I spent 2 or 3 hours hillind the leeches in Buburimu Peninsula with no luck. Any suggestions on the best place to farm for the ruby. Any advice would be great.

Keep trying. I've helped multiple people get the ruby at Buburimu. It can be anywhere from the 2nd kill to 4 days of trying 3-4 hours a day.

I wasted numerous hours in BP before taking the advice of a friend and heading to Maze of Shakrami. The ruby dropped on my second kill there.

Good luck!

If you do the Maze, you should be at a lvl to handle multiple leeches cause you can get massive links there if your not careful. I am talking about the Leech Room where the Leech King pops of course.

I was able to get the Carbuncle's Ruby in one kill from a Thread Leech in Korroloka Tunnel using a lvl 35 DRK/WAR.

I have helped get about a dozen carby rubies, some for myself and friends and some as a merc. I have found the most efficient way of getting them was the leech room in Maze of S. I'd go as rdm/thf, train the whole room, build TP and cyclone, a couple of cyclones kills them all and you're killing 20+ at a time. Repop time was only like 5 minutes or so if I recall correctly. Longest it took me to get one after implementing this strategy was about 45 minutes of killing. Usually get one in about 15-20 minutes (2 rotations).

I had a lvl 56 WHM train leeches in Buburimu Penninsula for me after trying to kill leeches for hours at lvl 30 for 3 days in both Dangruf Wadi and Buburimu. We got 2 ruby drops in less than 5 minutes with him there. ^^

148 Leaches in one afternoon at lvl 35 WAR/MNK. Did not get the ruby. The whole 1% drop should be adjusted to .5% drop. Last Saturday on my way back from Bibiki Bay, decided to kill a leach for fun...BOOM! Got the ruby, and was not even trying. Needless to say, I was very happy. Completed the SMN quest yesterday, at the same time as completing the DRK quest (well, I got the last element).

Spent a long time myself trying to get the ruby (Buburimu)and was getting ready to give it up when I got help and some advice - do not use magic and WS's as this can reduce drop rate (as a WHM magic was all I had !!). Got my ruby within a matter of one hour and since then helped two friends to get theirs again in a very short time (second kill for one). If you have heard this advice before my apologies but it certainly helped me.

I've have done this 3 different times, using lvl30/15 drk/thf, twice for l.s members, and once for myself. The first two times took less than an hour. Of course when I decided I would like try smn, I was at it 2 straight hours no drop, took an hour break came back and it was second kill. I would say make sure you have a thf with you, because the two l.s members that came with claimed to have been at it 8 hours.

I just did this yesterday. Took my 75 blm friend to Maze of Shakrami. We cleared out the whole place including the Leech King room probably 8 times. He'd just train them all, slept and nuked... prolly a total of 40 leeches every time we ran thru. We'd just escape to the entrance once we cleared the Leech King room and start over from the beginning so they'd all have spawned by the time we got to them. Then we brought out a 60+ cor to help. I had my thf sub with TH at first as did my blm friend, but he went and switched to thf main with TH2 and I switched back to blm sub, since I'm a whm and can't solo for nothin as whm/thf. So came back, we all solod the leeches for hours. Cor and I stayed in Leech King room and cleared it out a few at a time so they'd start popping one at a time and we wouldn't get mad links, and thf ran thru the rest of the maze and killed them as he saw them. So cor and I probably cleared out the room another 10 times, I'd say there's a good 20 in there at a time. Anyway, I'm just going to estimate that it took a total of about 700 kills before I got the drop... it took me longer just to get the ruby with 3 people helping me than it did to get all 7 weather types. If you can get a high lvl to train them for you, blm would prolly work best, then go to the maze. That's where you'll find the most leeches. If you're soloing, that's probably not the place to go, unless you're a high level blm and don't mind resting for mp after every train you kill. It may only take 20 kills... may take 1000. It's a matter of patience I guess. Everyone else I know that solod the ruby went to Buburimu to get it. This was definitely frustrating.

I tried a few times on my own in Buburimu with absolutely no luck whatsoever. Then three of us from my LS went to try and get the drop for my buddy and me, I got it on the first kill...

The drop was pretty easy in comparison to the rest of the quest. I was only a level 32 Thief and getting to the Beaucedine Glacier was quite an adventure! Luckily my nation had control of the area at the time and I was able to do the outpost supply mission as well.

Go to maze of shakamri requirments:
1. bring a lv. 73 blkm. (thundaga3 highest aoe spell ever known to ff11.)
2. go toking leach pop place.
3. have blkm stun one leach and have him link all he can find.
4. have them centered all around you, then casts thundaga 3 regardless if they hit you, your chances of firing the spell is high.
5. repeat this methood till you get that ruby.
It didnt take me long this way at all.Im blkm 73 and I help others, I tell them to stand by zone and wait there, when i get their ruby, they lot for it.

Got mine in maze of shakrami. Was camping argus with high lvl RNG and BRD, and rng noticed leech king popped. So we went in there and slaughtered everything. no earring, but 2 rubys. Seeing as I was the only one of us without smn unlocked, I had one.

Can a 60 BLU link all the leeches in Maze of Shakrami and take them by using like Battle Dance and other AoE spells?
