let me explain by an exemple:

Leaping Lizzy is a "Lottery pop" from Lizards from the easthern part of South Gustenberg.

This means everytime you kill a lizzard, there's a random possibility that Leaping Lizzy will pop instead of that lizzard. Lizards are here called "Place Holders". If no one ever kill place holders, it's most likelly never or very going to pop... in the other hand, the more ppl kill place holders, the higher it the chance to get a pop of the NM..

How does this apply to timed lottery pops?
Such mobs as Tyrannic Tunnok, Ungur, Amikiri, where after a span of time (21 hrs?) killing their PH will lead to a random chance of spawning.

Is the end to this window always 24 hrs from death or is it any time after 21 and could be 2, 3, 4, 5+ hrs after the 21st?

Wondering cuz I've had very sporadic luck camping these.

Haven't camped much 21-24 NMs...

Only did for 2 of them, and I never heard of it taking more then 24 hours.

The thing is, ppl get confused easilly with such high timers... per exemple, when we were hunting the Malboro NM in Ordelle's Cave for a friend's Brown Belt, we were told the "Stroper" over there was a Place holder. so we took timers and we were spamming macro for provoke when Stroper was about to pop...(every 5 hours game time). we were surprise to see the NM pop about 3 hours(game time) after we killed a Stroper... Proving it's most prolly not a lottery pop...

(you may want to add this to this NM data ^^)

And come to think of it... I've never heard of 21-24 hours lottery pops...

but if there's any, it theorically should be "21+ hours lottery" (with no maximum...) just like Leaping Lizzy and Valkurm Emperor which were(back in the days I camped those) 1-2 hours lottery pops, but could occasionnally take way more... I saw Valkurm Emperor take 5 hours once... (there was 8+ campers, 3-4 with Wide Scan so I don't think we could have simply missed the pop...)

Ok first, the 21-24 hours does not start until the mob is killed. This is why Time of Death (ToD) is so very important in camping many HNM's. This is what happens:

The first chance the mob can spawn is at 21 hours after last ToD. If it doesn't spawn then, it won't spawn again until 21 hours and 30 mins after ToD and every 30 mins afterwards until the it reaches the last possible spawn time, and then it will spawn. This is part of the reason it is so easy for HNMLS to bot these mobs. If it was a truely random spawn window, it would make things more difficult, but if you are against someone who is packet sniffing, you are screwed anyway.

This is true for some HNM's, off the top of my head Fafnir/Behemoth/Adamantoise. It's not true for other HNM's, ie Serket/Roc/Simurgh/Bune.

Timed lotto works like this:

Charybdis is a 9-12 hour lotto. This means if you kill placeholders 0-9 hours after he dies, he won't pop. If you kill placeholders 9-12 hours after his last death, he can pop from the next placeholder at any time. If nobody kills placeholders, he will spawn from the first one killed 12+ hours after his last death.
