"The chocobo fares in San d'Oria, Bastok, Windurst, Jeuno, and the crags of Holla, Dem, and Mea will drop more rapidly than before the version update."

What does this mean really?

Well, yes. But I mean the "will drop more rapidly" part.
Do chocobo prices drop over time? Do they reset each game/rl day/week, and then the price drop from there?

My point is, the news didn't say cheaper chocobo's, it said the price will drop faster than before.

Drop from WHAT?

Drop WHEN?

The price at all chocobo rental spots in the game is primarily based on the number of chocobos that have been rented from that zone. The more chocobos that are rented from Port Jeuno, for example, the higher the price will be to rent the next one. This is all tied directly to the zone where the chocobo is being rented; this is why it's generally cheaper to rent a chocobo in Upper Jeuno than the three other Jeuno zones. (There are other minor factors in the rental price, such as the current mission rank of the character renting the chocobo, but the majority of the price is based on how many have already been rented out.) The price is reset after a server reboot, of course, as with most of this type of data.

The rental price automatically degrades over time; with the patch, it looks like the price will drop even faster. So, we'll see cheaper chocobos on average, especially in the high-traffic places (the Jeuno zones, and the three teleport chocobo spots.)
