Altepa Gate

What is the Altepa Gate used for? I heard that you need to use 4 pillars to open it, but what is it used for? I mean, is it a quest or mission, or is it used for something else completely? Thanks ahead of time for any answers as I am just curious about it and can't find any info.

Its used for multiple things. There are a bunch of NM's behind it. Most notably the NM for the final sword ws is back there.
