Just Curious I've been playing for about 3 months now and I have a lvl 52 Monk and I know Chi Blast damage works off of mind my question is does it also work off of attack damage the reason i am asking is because I was wondering if it is better to use my normal h2h weapons so my attack stays normal or switch to a Water Staff for instance that gives me an extra 4 mind but i dont have skilled up at all so my attack dmg goes way down like -250 cause its a lvl 1 skill for staff. Can anyone please elaborate on how the Chi blast damage is calculated. Thank You

Well i dont kno much about how chi blasts works... but if ur a melee i'd advise u not to change weapon anyway for chi blast.... because ur TP WILL DROP TO 0! which i dont think its a good idea imo lol and i dont think chi blast is based on weapon skill thats what ive heard never tested ;)

Yeah, I have a Mithran Monk friend that Berserks before a Chi Blast and it always pumps up the damage. Which explains why Boost pumps it up.

Skill and Berserk have no effect on Chi Blast, it is based solely on MND and the # of boosts.

Full Formula:

$MND = Total MND;
$BOOST = Total Boosts;
$RBMA = Normal Random Boost Multiplier (0.25 .. 0.60);
$RBMB = AF Random Boost Multiplier (0.75 .. 1.10);
$DMG = Total DMG from Chi Blast;

Without AF:
$MND * ($BOOST * $RBMA + 1) = $DMG(floor);

With AF (Temple Gloves Boosting):
$MND * ($BOOST * $RBMB + 1) = $DMG(floor);

When you are fighting normal mobs I would say don't change weapons. However when fighting some HNM's you will be asked to not melee and just chi blast for damage. When monks melee they give the mob alot of tp. When you are doing that just use pure mnd gear, boost x10 chiblast, rinse and repeat. It may be a little boring but its how you will be of most service to the cause. Try to get a krins staff, I think they have the most mnd.

Any other melees always raise more TP than MNK. Because MNK have Subtl Blow and plain war/anyotherjob melee not.

If you just want to use not melee and afraid of TP raising create a Mage party. Anything else is stupid.

Get a good PT and MNK melee are no prob.

Btw they do more damage with WS than other melee because the have Martial arts and hit faster.

So what u said is not true that a chiblast monk is the only useable one in a NM party.

So just raise MND a bit and ChiBlast is a good addon. Nothing more nothing less ^^

Because monks hit faster and for less damage they add tp faster than say a sam. Subtle blow or not. Most melee do not engage the main target but get tp from being a sam or /sam OR from monsters other than the HNM. As I said before MOST linkshells will ask you to be a chi-blaster for most HNM's. I stand by that...

I am a 75 mnk and all I do on most HNMs and sky gods is chiblast. I dont melee because I am aware that giving the mob to much tp is a bad thing, and pulling off a 1500+ chiblast is alot more satisfying.

As for the answer to your question. if you want to get the most out of your chiblast, sub whm and get as much + mnd gear as you can. Use your af gloves and switch out to some + mnd gloves the second before you chiblast.
