News Item: Happy New Year!

From:FINAL FANTASY XI
Dec. 31, 2005 07:00 [PST]

Happy New Year!

Season's greetings and a happy New Year!

Incidentally, a certain impetuous summoner, looking for a way to accomplish the arduous, onerous task of defeating Maat, called on Fenrir to read his fortune for the New Year. Unfortunately for him, Fenrir refused to listen, and ran outside of town instead!

Won't you lend the poor summoner a hand and help him catch Fenrir if you see him?

Fenrir claims that he just wanted to teach the inconsiderate little summoner a lesson, but apparently the avatar does plan to forgive him.

[Event Details]
This event is scheduled to commence on Dec. 31, 2005 at 07:00, and will last until Jan. 10, 2006 at 0:00 (PST).

Like the New Year events in previous years, this involves various NPCs running around in outside zones. This time around, with 2006 being the Year of the Dog, we have the Fortutious Fenrir NPC, and three Summoner NPCs. You can trade the Summoner NPCs any item to randomly receive either a short duration buff, or a Rare/EX New Year's Gift item. If you receive the New Year's Gift item, you can use it, and it will be used up and provide you with a Fishing Enhancement buff.

The cities are also decked out with various decorations to celebrate the New Year!

Yea, I was leveling Monk in Ronfaure when I saw this Fenrir and one Summoner...I kept following them and eventually two more Smns joined in. I traded a ton of random things including Ginger Cookies. All the buffs I got were Protect, Shell, Shock Spikes and EnThunder. After getting and using one of those New Year's Presents I got the fishing buff. I kept trading and getting more presents but they did nothing. I am yet to see any event item reward from doing this and would be mad if there wasn't one lol. I will buy a few stacks of Ginger Cookies and see if any of the Smns will eventually hand out an item reward. I tried random thing like trading a New Year's Present, when I got one, to each of the Smns and Fenrir himself. I even tried opening a couple of them right next to Fenrir since he is "Fortuitous" and thought that that would give me some item, but still no go. Every time i traded a Boiled Crab to one of the Smns I immediately got a Present, but with the Cookies it took about 10 trades for one to hand me a New Year's Present. Unless there is some far out there combo like the Christmas Robe confusion, then I must say that I've tried pretty much everything.. =/

What Toby brought up i something I also conidered, but never tried. So since he got something other than a fishing buff by using it in Kuftal Tunnel, then we should all try it in random places until someone gets something. Everyone should post the different things they get in random areas and keep updating in posts.. let's get this done so we can all enjoy our new event items! ^^ I have a feeling though that since no new items were brought up by Somepage besides the wands for Valentine, then we will either get nothing and get angry, or we will get those stable collars/mob belts from last new year's event.

That's exactly what it says in Spanish. Most games don't include the tilde (~) over the n.

He just typed it wrong from the OP, but yeah, "Feliz año (or ano in case you're missing ñ) nuevo" is Spanish for "Happy new year"

And just to make a funny remark, while "Año" means year "Ano" (without so said ñ spanish ex letter) means ass.

In other words, these NPC's are wishing you to have a "Happy New Ass" XP

If you want only buffs you can trade EX items to the summoners, since the item can't be traded it stays in your inventory but you will trigger the NPC to give you the buff even though they are gettign nothing in return.

I've had enough trouble searching for Fenrir as it is, let alone trying to trade something to it. <.>; (A ls member told me to try Apple Pies...I hope they work...)

But anyway, how do you track Fenrir down? I'm in Windurst & I keep checking all over Sarutabaruta but have had no such luck. I have, however, heard a couple of players saying they've seen it around Tahrongi Canyon...

~ Basically - does anyone know how often Fenrir appears? & is there some place where it shows up the most? ^_^;?

Sorry if you find this post annoying. ^___^;;; I'm just wondering if I can get a little advice.

Fortuitous Fenrir and the three summoners are always in the area, they just run around a lot. Widescan really helps with finding them.

You could try Qufim. I remember seeing Fenrir there ad naseum. It was a bit annoying trying to level with Fenrir and 3 taru summoners running through our camp every 3 seconds.
