Anyone have any success with simply copying a ffxi installation from one computer to another without going through the hassle of reinstalling it from the cds form scratch? It's been a while since I installed the orginal game, and I'm not sure I can locate my orginal cds... :P

Could probably make an image of the hard drive and transfer that, no?

you can, kinda, but you also need to extract a chunk of the regisrty and take that with you also.
not sure where/what all you need to take.
i play mostly on the ps2, but the computer i had it on met an unfortunate end recently.

I think if you're imaging the entire hard drive, it'd take the registry with it.

If you ghost your HD, any registry file would be tranferred as well as well as all updates, character, solitaire, blah, blah, blah.......
hope that helps

the registry would only go with the image if you installed ffxi on the same drive as windows, and you would be copying the whole machine, not just ffxi

I have gotten this to work. It is not the most dificult. There are 2 steps to doing this. One is to copy the registry entries (you can search for PlayOnlineUS I think), and the other is to register the DLLs required for the game. There are 5 or 6 DLLs that I had to do, unfortunately the list is at home, and I am at work now ><
I will try to find them when I get home.
