Leveling Job

I'm rather new to FINAL FANTASY XI and I started as a MNK. I'm at Level 12 in the Valkurm Dunes, but I'm finding it ridiculously hard to find a group for leveling. I'm wondering, should I go to town and switch to WAR or THF? I don't like playing as magic users. I'm just hoping partying isn't always this hard, because if so this game may really not be worth it.

Getting a party as a combat class can be a little tough at low levels as most of the time thier is a shortage of Mages and plenty of combats classes. It will pick up but yeah it sucks with about a 1 hour wait time for a party.

I would go fight and get exp in the Highlands while waiting so that way I wasn't completely board.

It does get better later as there are fewer people playing with jobs at higher levels.

It really depends on the people around. A lot of them believe parties should fit into certain equations. Ex being you need healer, dd, blm, so forth. While these are good, it limits people finding parties cause you may not fit into the sceme of things. The best party I was in was 5 mnks and a rdm. The rdm held his own and the attacks were flying from the mnks. I've been in every combination possible, but I've had more fun with a motley crew of a party that just seemed to make it work. There's more thought into making it work when you're outside the "basic" collaboration. And isn't the main part of the game is to have fun
