The correct spawn time is 1hour - 10hours from what i know, and I have heard maybe even 12hours. I DO know however that it does not respawn in 30min as i was on Seraph server competeing with 4 gilsellers. They camped it every day for about 2-4 months, everytime VE would die, they would log off and log back on in 50-55min so they wouldn't miss the spawn, and since i neede an emp pin, i was there for about 3 weeks straight and didnt get 1 drop >.< Im kindd of happy SE made it rare/ex.

VE window is around 1 hour to 3 hours after ToD.
If it takes longer to spawn than that someone one-shotted it and you missed it.

it has a minimum spawntime of one hour, no maximum spawntime. Each time the placeholder dies and respawns the odds of the next being VE increase(has yet to be determined if kills before the 1hr cooldown affect this), so even though it doesn't have a 'max' spawntime, it is highly unlikely that spawntime gets over 5-6 hours, although it has happened before, and theoretically could get a ton longer, but statistically won't in the time this game is around for.

Actually a friend taught me about this when I paid him to get an empress pin for me:
There are 4 placeholder spawns on VE, if you stand closer to the west side of his placeholder spawns and scroll down the list you'll see 4 damselflies.
The top one is always the place holder.
The top one has a 5 min repop (He used sharpshot to get the ToP).
Kill only the top one, it has a 1-3hr respawn from what I've seen. We missed 2 claims because ppl threw him off on the placeholder, but it took only 3 kills to get the pin.
I have my pin so I dont care about sharing this info now :P

His spawn time is very random. Can be 30 minutes to whatever hours. Camped him one time for 8 hours and I was the only one there. I know which 4 are VE because they are all on the same spot in widescan. Trained them all day and killed them all together and then wait 5 minutes for them to repop. He will always show up right under the group of 4 Damselflies on the widescan list.
For example:

Nope, I read the same thing that a previous poster stated about only the top fly being a placeholder, and in my very limited (2 pops) experience it has proven to be <fact>. While this doesnt conclusively mean that he ALWAYS pops at the top, it does mean that he certainly does not always pop at the bottom.
Incidentally if anyone else has used the strategy of only killing the top fly and using a /ja to time the pop would they post any findings?

I hate this fly 0/8, but from what I've seen from when I camp it. he NEVER spawns at night, usual time I saw him spawn was 5-12. I can't confirm any of this, but out of the at least 25 spawns I've seen, it has never spawned at night, and most were around 5. Oh and VE has at least 5 spawn points, one right in the middle of the trees, on SE of the trees, one NE of trees, one mid spawn area near the N tree, and the west side. I've killed it in each of those spots myself. and ty for the VE widescan list, I never payed attention to that, I just hit track and him, ran, and prayed a thf didn't see it in time.

I have personally seen VE at 17:34 on widescan, make what you will of it. In my experiences though, 1-4 hours is a very good rough estimate. If you were to camp it for your first time today, I'd expect you to miss the first 3 claims, but once you get the hang of how his placeholders work, its much more likely for you to get the spawn. personally, after I got my first non-luck based claim, I only missed 2 out of 15. Although getting 15/17 pops is good, I remind you that I was there for 17+ pops, so it wasn't all fine-and-dandy.
