im having some trouble getting my woodworking to move along, and i heard there was a specific direction that you could face to better your odds of a skill increase. is this true and if so what way do i need to face

In general I find it better to face east or south east when synthing with wind or earth crystals. Facing in these directions will only increase your chances for a completed synth not a raise in wiidworking level. I found that the best way to raise my woodworking level was to go after (try to synth) items that were about 4 levels above my current woodworking level. This allows you to gain points towards the next level even when you fail a synth. If the item you are trying to synth is to easy, you won't get any level raise points, but if it is too hard then you will fail alot and not get points that way either
