So I'm thinking about crafting soon, but I'm not sure what I should start in. Anyone have any suggestions, Preferences, etc? Please post some Ups and Downs of the crafts you know of. ^^ Thank You!

First off, why are you looking to pick up a craft?

What are you looking to gain out of it?

If you like the ability to make neat items and the challenge of working up a skill maybe Goldsmithing. I had a lot of fun with it. As far as a method of making money; I don't believe this is the best route to go.

Goldsmithing one of the more difficult/expensive crafts to skill up. There are others that don't require the same level of commitment/gil.

Hmm.. Well Gill is definitely a factor. I currently make my gil by growning Tree cuttings and selling the saplings. But I'd like to be able to make money in crafting. But at the same time I'd like to make things I can use more. I may just go with one or the other. I appreciate your help! ^^

Any guild can make gil and useful items, although some are certainly powerhouses more than others. Check out the Guild Recipe Lists to get a feel for what sort of items and materials each guild deals with. Here's a rundown to give an overview of the crafting guilds:

Alchemy -- Mainly deals with consumables (sneak oil and invis potions) at lower levels, mixed in with "extra effects" on weapons. I highly recommend everyone take this up to 60, if only to make your own consumables when they aren't easily available.

Bonecraft -- Probably the guild that is skilled to 100 the least. Has the fewest recipes of any of them, and mainly skilled up by people who want to make arrowheads.

Clothcraft -- Makes most of the gear for casters. Used as a sub-skill in many Goldsmithing and Leathercraft recipes. Especially useful if you do Harvesting.

Cooking -- Entirely consumables, so recommended to 60 as well. Being able to make your own juice is quite nice if you're a caster type, or the cheaper foods. With the food revamp in December, it's now very useful to take this all the way to 100, as well.

Goldsmithing -- The most expensive to raise at the highest levels, the one that can make the coolest trinkets -- rings and earrings especially. A strong compliment to Smithing, and the guild with the most recipes, including armor and weapons. Works well with Mining to gather the raw materials.

Leathercraft -- Almost exclusively armor is made from this guild, with a wide variety of useful gear. Often skilled up just as a sub-skill compliment to other guilds such as Bonecraft, Clothcraft and Smithing.

Smithing -- The major skill for weapons, the second most expensive to raise to 100, after Goldsmithing. A busy guild of weapons and some armor. Also mixes well with Mining, of course.

Woodworking -- Two specific groups tend to clump on Woodworking: Rangers, so they can make their own arrows; Fishermen, to be able to repair their own rods, most notably Lu Shang's. At the higher levels, a notable synth is the level 51 elemental staves. Logging is useful for helping any Woodworker gain raw materials.

Hope that helps!

I've decided that I want to excell in a craft that i can make a lot of money in and then with the cash I'll eventually start another craft(s) or somethin. I heard about Desynthesizing and how its an excellent source of income. I heard Smithing/Goldsmithing are best for desynthisizing for cash... Any comments?

I've decided to start Smithing. I am doing Smithing so I can desynth items and make a profit of gil. It would be helpful if someone could post items that are good for desynthing for cash and what lvl smithing skill is needed. Any help is appreciated.

Here's the list of Smithing desynthesis recipes: Smithing Desynthesis. As for what makes money, that depends entirely on your server's economy. You'll have to do some research on your own to figure that out, or to do well in crafting in general. Good luck!

my experience with desynthing and goldsmithing was VERY erratic. you really have no idea on what you'll get if you get something. it was like playing the lottery. buy a stack of lighting/wind crystals, buy some finished goods and see if you can get a HQ desynth.

An example. a Silver Ring would usually sell for approx the same price as 1 silver ingot, if you got lucky on a silver ring desynth, you could potentially get back 2 silver ingots!! So you could nearly double your money.

Factor in the cost for the crystals, and the total failures where you lose the crystal and the item, and it's difficult to do better then breaking even.

And this is figuring your guild skill is 20 points HIGHER then the trivial of the synth you're attempting to desynth.
Which pretty much forces you to skill up to past 40 in a guild before you could potentially desynth for decent profit.
