Well, for starters, we have several excellent fishing links on our links page, here are four of them. (Just copy and paste the links into your browser.)
Fishing Database:

Fishing by Region:

That said, at low levels, my best advice is to fish in town for the first 10-18 levels, but the links above will have all sorts of other information and ideas if that's not to your liking.
The first fish to target is crayfish. Buy a bunch of little worms in Windurst (from Ensasa at H-9 in Windurst Waters), and then pick up a bunch of bamboo rods, either from the Auction House, fishing guild, or craft them yourself (requires a WoodWorking skill of 15 - a skill you'll want to raise if you're fishing).
Crayfish can be found in all of the starter towns. Try Bastok Markets Waterway/Bastok Mines, Windurst Woods/Windurst Walls/Windurst Waters and San d'Oria Port/San d'Oria North.
After you get to about 6 skill or so, you may want to move on to Bastore Sardines or Moat Carp. Check out the links above for places to catch them, as well as the type of bait they like, and the best rod to use.
Keep in mind that fishing requires a LOT of patience. Also, there are many theories about fishing. The first is that a zone can be "fished out", meaning that there are virtually no fish left to catch. Also, that an anti-bot measure requires you to zone every 2 hours. There are also many ideas about what moon phase is best for fishing. Just go with what works for you.

Personally when i started fishing I saved up and bought a Tarutaru rod and a Sabiki Rig. I then fished right outside of the Fishing Guild in Port Windurst from level 0-6. Its a great way to go if you dont want to keep spending money on bait. But thats just what I did. I hope your fishing goes well.

I plan on starting Fishing soon. If I were to buy the rig or whatnot, it's not like some game where it might be lost or whatever, right? Is the rig a good way to go?

Actually I do believe you can lose rigs if you break your line or rod. Also according to the new patch info anything that can catch multiple fish will not be much more difficult to reel in. I would reconsider using rigs especially at start.

A correction for a typo in my previous post. According to patch info frome SE rigs that catch multiple fish will NOW (I had said not) be more difficult to reel in. I appologize for the typo.

Thx for the help. I bought myself a Bamboo Fishing Pole and a stack of Worms and I head to Port San d'Oria. I was told this is a good way to lvl forom 0-7, maybe 10. So I went there and everything that took my bait was too strong. I couldn't reel a single thing in. I went through bout 2 stacks. Will the fishing gear fix this? Help at least?
