hi all
i have been playing this game for a month solid now,and have to say im [bold]HOOKED[/b] lol.
i have progressed my warrior to lvl 20 with thief sub job lvl 8.
to get a sub job other than the standard ones say a summoner or dragoon etc i have to get my main to a certain lvl before i can go on the quest to get the items,is this true ???? and what are your recommendations for the advanced jobs ???
kind regards rodthedogg

Well, most warriors do Ninja as their subjob, in fact as you get higher it\'s damn hard to find a warrior who doesn\'t have ninja as a subjob. I\'ve also seen MNK and THF in earlier levels (levels before 30) so you could probably get away with either of those two until 30. Hope this helps!

yes you need lvl 30 to be able to get the quest for jobs, and u need to talk to the NPC with the lvl30+ job otherwise u won\'t get the quest for the job. I would also say u get ninja as sub but be aware ninja is an expensive job, also if u only lvl it to lvl37! so u need to farm many necklaces to be able to get the quest for utsusemi: ichi. on which server are u??

This is all too true.

It depends on how you\'re going to play it, though. I remember people used to do WAR/MNK to high levels, but it stopped when NIN was revealed to be a superior alternative for tanking purposes.

BLU, SAM, MNK, and THF are all viable sub jobs, but you\'ll have to take the smug comments you\'ll recieve with a grain of salt (try not to die from Sodium overload before you hit 75).
If you want the easy road, just do /NIN, but you\'re welcome to sub anything you want as long as you have a viable rational for it. (Please don\'t sub a mage job, though... other than BLU, that is.)

To take this a bit further.

First, you can tell which server you are on when you first start up. It will say something to the effect of: Welcome to . For example, my server is Cerberus.

My WAR is 37 right now, my MNK is 70.

Mostly WARs at any level will serve a combination of 3 possible roles in the party. Main Tank, Backup Tank, and Damage Dealer.

The role that you plan to fill will affect which subjob you should have.

Typically, for purely DD (Damage Dealer) roles, you will find one of four combos:

WAR/THF - This is good for two reasons. First, after level 30, you can do some respectible damage with SA (Sneak Attack). Second, once you get TA (Trick Attack) you can transfer hate to your Main Tank. This is really handy.

WAR/SAM - This is handy if you plan to use a two handed weapon. SAM has certain abilities that allow it to really open a lot of damage and alot of accuracy. Unfrotunately, this is really only useful in later levels.

WAR/DRG - as with SAM, Dragoons can get a +10 (I beleive) to accuracy. At level 30, you can also wear a Wyvern Earring that gives you some haste. Unfortunately, as with SAM, this combo is really only useful at highter levels (as in 60+).

WAR/NIN - This is the most common combination I see. At level 20 you get to wield two weapons (usually axes) and at 24 you get shadows. This is handy both for damage dealing and tanking. Once you get Rampage as a weapon skill, you will throw up some respectible numbers, and shadows help you from being squished.

I did not put it on the list. WAR/MNK can work, it has a lot going for it, however, it pales (in my opinion) to any of the above options.

If you plan to main tank, the best option (again, in my opinion) is to sub NIN. NIN gives you great evasion increases, plus it gives you shadows. However, this either takes a really good party, or really good gear.

If you backup tank, then any of the combos will work.

When I was leveling WAR, it was kind of boring until I hit 20. Once I got two axes, I loved it. The only reason why I am not leveling it more now is I am waiting to Cap MNK.

I hope this was some help.

Good Luck.
