HQ # 1 to make stuff plus 1? how??

i made alot of bronze clubs and never got a plus 1 i dont under stand what hq means or what it is. is it something you add to the recipie or what

I'd highly recommend searching other ffxi sites for indepth crafting info, but heres a short version:

The higher over an item's cap you are, the better your chance to HQ it. The chance to HQ does not directly scale though, and is broken into "tiers".

Tier 0 is under cap to the cap, and has about a .01% chance to HQ. You'll get a couple of these while skilling, but not many. Don't count on them for money.
Tier 1 is from 1 over to 10 over the cap, and is 1-3% (depending on who you ask, what day, what crystal, luck, etc).
Tier 2 is 11 to 30 over cap, and is 10% chance.
Tier 3 is 31 to 50 over, and is 20-25% chance (again, depends on who you ask).
Tier 4 is 51+ over the cap, and will give approx a 50% chance to hq.

Keep in mind all of these % can be influenced by moon phase, day of the week, what direction you face, etc. Also keep in mind that what items you wear (like the +1 craft items you buy from the guild) can influence whether you break a new tier. Advanced synth support is +3. So, if you are trying to get a 25% hq rate on elemental staves, you'd have to be 100+6 (all 3 guild items), and use advanced support, to get 31-over a cap of 75.

What about level of subcrafts needed in some recipes, they also need to break those tiers to get an HQ?
