They die from not being examined. Cuttings will ask for Feed Crystal twice in their cycle and if you don't give them crystals they will harvest as 1-2 Saplings.

From my experience you will always get tree sapplings from tree cuttings as long as you do not feed any crystals. It does not matter what day or phase you plant them.

Doesn't matter. Cuttings always produce 1-2 Saplings, there's no crummy results like Rock Salt or Little Worms as can be found when unlucky on other recipes. Just toss Cuttings in the pot, check each day (don't feed crystals) and you win.

So if I examine from Jeuno MH and the flowerpot is in Bastok, its ok?

Yes, it will be ok. Normally I run 40 pots of cuttings to saplings. I have one mule in each starting city and one that I ran to Jeuno (who incidentily is from bastok lol)

I have found that consistently I get better results from my Windy and Sandy mules. For my Jeuno mule I usually average about 12 - 13 saplings from a run of 10. (Sandy and Windy usually average 14 - 16).

A couple things that I have personally experienced. I dont check them every day, but rather every other day. This is slightly dangerous if you forget once, so watch out. Checking less frequently usually raises my average by one or two saplings.

Something else that I have found, but have not tested to make sure. My last run, I planted all of them on Lights day, checked once every other day (on random days) and harvested on Darks day. My Sandy mule had a perfect run (10 cuttings produced 20 saplings), but that has only happened once, so it could have been just that fluke random chance.

If it matters, all my mules use porcilen (sp) pots, and have all the gear (except the hands). Either way, you are guarunteed one cutting will produce at least one sappling (as someone mentioned earlier, there is no "bad" result)

Hope this helped.

What gear do you mean?

Hello,

The gear I was referring to was the following:

Field Tunica
Field Hose
Field Boots

There are also gloves, but from what I have read, they do not improve your harvesting ability, and will actually have a detrimental affect if worn while harvesting. There are alot of theories about which peices should be worn during planting, checking, feeding, and harvesting, but frankly, I am a bit too lazy to actually test it. So for the most part, I just wear those three pieces all the time.

In a rough test with my room mates, I wore all the gear (minus the gloves), and they wore nothing. We planted the same seeds in the same cities with the same pots. For the most part, I got a better yield than they did.

Hoped this helped.

I think you may be mistaking this for harvesting.

You are partially correct. All the Field gear (except hands) helps in harvesting. To that end, though it is not the same as harvesting in the field, there is conjecture that there is a hidden benefit when wearing the gear to harvest your plants for gardening. There is further congecture that it helps to wear it while checking your plants.

For my own experiments, I cannot confirm that wearing it during planting, feeding, or checking helps, but I do get much better yields consistently when wearing the gear while harvesting.

Personally, and this is just an opinion NOT fact, I also think there is a gardening skill. I have found that the mules I have that have gardened the most and with the greatest variety of plants tend to produce better results. But thats just opinion and I really dont have a way to prove it.
