Do Elemental Obi/staves affect crafting?

All right, we all know that crafting is heavily influenced by elemental day and weather patterns. So My question is this.

Do lvl 51 Elemental Staves and lvl 72 Elemental Obi's affect crafting results?

The Elemental staves are known to affect job abilities and spells of their elements and opposing elements as well as avatras. So on these I ask, do they affect synthesis. And if so, how? Do they cause you to lose less materials on breaks? Cause you to success more? Maybe get more HQ's??

Then there is the Elemental Obi's at lvl 72. They "Give you the full benefit of their like weather/day effects. Does this mean they amplify the effects of a particular day or weather? It's known that for example the light obi will cause a WHM's cure potency to be +10% every spell on lightsday rather than just some spells and BLM's get the full damage effect every spell rather than just some spells on the similar day/weather effects to the obi and the spell. So again I say, does this make for better crafting?

And one final comment. I only want responses from those who have actually tried this personally. Data would be appreciated but experiences are good enough. However I don't wan't speculation by those who have not tried this personally. There is already enough speculation on how synthesis works, and I don't want to add more.

If you have any firsthand experience with either of these pieces of armor or even both, please reply.

My crafting seems to be slightly better when I take into consideration what I'm wearing. Limiting it to the elemental staves/obi's, however, is in my eyes pure foolishness. Sniper Rings have -dark on them, why should that not affect crafting, but a weapon with some elemental attribute in the name would? I've tried some minor tests, but I haven't found anything too conclusive.

One thing i noticed, is that the rare/ex GP crafting equip has elemental attributes. I'm not trying to speculate, but rather take this factor into consideration.

For example, the Goldsmithing GP item Shaded Spectacles have the attribute Resist vs. Light +1, while the Goldsmith's Apron has Resist vs Fire +1 and Resist vs. earth +1.

Any links, or info anyone could provide would be great. Good topic.

Here's a thought - If indeed your elemental attributes DO affect your synthing, why not try casting Barthunder when skilling up on earth crystals, etc.? Forgive the speculation, but i will be testing this and posting results, as i'm lvling WW on holy, sleep and venom bolts.
wish me luck!

Truth be told this idea intrigues me as well. I don't play a mage job so I havent bought any staves yet, but I'm thinking of buying one or two to test this out myself. I don't foresee myself getting the lvl 71 obi's anytime soon however, that's just not feasible.

I personally found using corresponding elemental staff while crafting helps. As for actual data, I have been looking around, but most say it doesn't help. Then again it could be like "Elemental direction", some say it's just rumour, some say it's 100% true.

This is actually a question I had asked myself after having some unexpected things happen to me while crafting so I started experimenting a bit to see what I could find out. I would list out all the experiments I tried, but that was quite a while ago and my memory of them is vague. However, this is what I've found:

When I'm ready to cook (provided it's with fire), I remove all equipment that has any elemental alignment to it except fire. I find that I have far fewer breaks. I also have fire enhancement on my mog house to keep down the loss of items on those occasions when I 'do' fail.

Secondly, I jack up my Mind as much as I can. I know you're going to laugh at that, but I do it. I do it because I was in a hurry one day, didn't pay attention to what I was wearing, and started cooking as my white mage. I HQ'd over half of the turtle soup I was making and had never made it before. Since then, I make sure I'm wearing as much fire based and mind based equipment as I can when I synth.

My roommate laughed at me for a bit about the mind thing until I was getting much higher HQ rates than he was. Now he's a believer. :p

Hope this helps! Good luck!^^

Yeah, don'tcha love the placebo effect? I remember once seeing a screenshot of someone's friend telling them to close their eyes and spin in circles before synthing . . . they tried it and synthed a Triumph Earring. Being curious, I tried it once . . . and synthed some Apple Pies +1. 'Course after that, I tried it a couple more times and got incredibly poor HQ rates.

I didn't notice anything whilst having Barstonra cast on me doing an earth synth compared to not, but then i only synthed 12 with and 12 without so its not a very conclusive test. I see alot of crafters with the related elemental staves on, but take into account that they give resistance to the element they are strong to (Wind staff gives earth resistance etc.)...

I have noticed that the moon makes an impact

crafting 6 dhalmel steaks on a firesday under a full moon i HQ'd 3 of them...

I have never crafted them under a full moon since, and have never HQ'd a steak since (even on firesday)

We all know that the elements do affect almost everything in the game. A good hint is Summoner gear. If you take all the really good summoner gear, you find it does not have ANY elemental resistance on it. (AF, AF2, Austere, Evokers Ring etc.) So only the staff i wear is adding it.

No speculating that because i have to use Fire/Vulcan staff for Ifrit, giving me +15/20 Ice, it is ideal for the Fire avatar (eg, HQ avatar in terms of damage etc.), wearing a fire staff to synth with Fire crystals should give HQ results.

I use Fire staff for HQ and Water staff for success when i craft.

Food for thought.

It's most likely one of those things that have a very minor negligible effect. I have been using staves for all my crafting for about 6 months now, as compared to before, not much is better.

I'd say over all I get slightly(negligble) more HQ's than without staves, and haven't seen a noticable difference with success/failure and how much of what is lost when failed. Stick to days, moon phases, and direction(if you believe in it), and only get the staves if you need them for something else, what you'd get out of it for crafting isn't worth the price you'd probably pay for them. I use them because I have all of them for my Rdm's Enfeebles, so I equip them because...why not.

With the Obi's... weather from what I know has no effect on synthing, so my educated guess would be no, but I have no experience using them.

To those of you saying to raise resistance to the element, I doubt they would add in something that would only benefit a certain class for crafting. "Sorry only white mages are good crafters because they have restance spells and high Mind." Tell that to the lvl 1 crafter mules with 100 cooking.
