PlayOnline: Oct-Dec 2004 Announcements - November 30, 2004
Posted by: Cuer - Tue Nov 30th, 2004 10:16 am EST
From the PlayOnline Developer's Room:

Oct.-Dec. 2004 Announcements

The holiday season is here and FINAL FANTASY XI development elves have been busy putting together goodies for all the good boys and girls of Vana'diel. We are planning our next major version update for Wednesday, December 8. The details of the update are as follows:
  • There will be several new quests and events added to the Promathia areas.
  • New quests will also be added in Non-Promathia areas.
  • New monsters (including notorious monsters) will be added.
  • Over 15 new "orb battles" will be added.
  • Several new weapons, types of equipment, and items will be introduced.
  • The difficulty of selected Promathia missions will be adjusted.
  • Tavnazian Archipelago supplies quests and regional teleportation will become available.
  • Chat filter options will be expanded.
  • A new Gobbiebag quest will be introduced.
  • Shortcuts into Promyvion - Vahzl for those who have partially or fully completed the Promathia mission will be added.
  • "Temporary items" found on the Ballista playing field now may be stored in one's inventory for the duration of the new match(es). Also, several previous "special" rules will be implemented permanently.
  • A new point system for rating Ballista participants on their performance will be introduced.
  • The stack number for several items will be increased from 12 to 99. In accordance with these adjustements, players will be unable to put items up on auction for a short period of time. Details on this temporary maintenance will be provided soon.
  • Several previously unstackable foods will now be stackable.
  • The duration and effect of certain foods will be adjusted.
  • The Old Sabertooth on Sauromugue Champaign will no longer drop any items.
  • The variety of items that can be dug up using the "Scavenge" ability will be increased.
  • A new thief job trait will be added.
  • The potency of etudes will be adjusted.
  • "Spirit Link" will now heal a wyvern's status ailments.
  • The accuracy of "Blood Pact" attacks during magic bursts will be adjusted.
  • The strength of physical "Blood Pact" attacks will not increase as much when fighting weaker enemies.
  • The order of messages that appear when using the /nominate, /vote, and /propose commands will be adjusted.
  • The fee collected when placing items on auction will be determined by the current auction price, not the store/guild selling price.

In addition to the changes mentioned above, many other adjustments are being made. A complete list of all changes will be available on the day of the update. Also, we are planning several new events for the end of the year, so keep your eyes open!

Another issue being addressed during this version update is the monopoly over certain monsters and items by a number of players. The development team is currently working on several methods to combat these types of actions. Some methods include the introduction of similar items, and new ways of obtaining items.

Articles 23, 24, and 25 of the PlayOnline User Agreement as well as Article 6 of the FINAL FANTASY XI User Agreement specifically prohibit the sale of any in-game money, charaters, and/or items on Internet auctions, etc. Any players found participating in RMT (real money trading), whether it be buying or selling, may have their accounts terminated. Please consider the consequences before partaking in actions that may result in the destruction of all your player characters.

Finally, for all existing and future Windows version players, we have developed a new benchmark program to test the playability of FINAL FANTASY XI on your personal computer. "Vana'diel Bench 3" will not only display the stunning landscape of the Lufaise Meadows, but will also offer a sneak peak into some of the most exciting cutscenes from the Chains of Promathia missions! To download this free software, visit the official FINAL FANTASY XI homepage, or any of the participating game sites.

Best regards,
The FINAL FANTASY XI Team

More mobs went in for the Chains of Promathia zones, along with recipe updates and a few search additions.
  • Mobs were added for three more CoP zones: Manaclipper, Lufaise Meadows, and Carpenters' Landing.
  • The Advanced Item Search was given another drop-down menu to restrict item searches: Races. The top options in the menu restrict the search being done to whatever race is selected; so if you're a Tarutaru Black Mage searching for +intelligence equipment, you can select your race on that menu so you don't end up seeing items that are actually only for other races. The lower options in the menu allow you see items that can only be used by a particular race.
  • The Recipe Database Search now has the checkmark option Single Guild Recipe Only. When selected, this limits searches to recipes that only require skill in one crafting guild. This limited search shows the recipes that crafters primarily use to raise their skill, without all the others mixed in. Here's an example of single guild Synthesis recipes lists: Alchemy, Bonecraft, Clothcraft, Cooking, Goldsmithing, Leathercraft, Smithing, and Woodworking.
  • In response to the questions about the new NM search option in the Mob Database Search, it should be pointed out that there are a number of mobs in FFXI which have unique names, but are not technically NMs. Only a mob that gives the Impossible to Gauge message when checked is an NM. So only actual NMs will show up on that list, although the other mobs are in the database; they just aren't NMs.

Mobs Added: Cutter, Uragnite, Kraken, Harajnite, Greater Pugil, Fatty Pugil, Cyclopean Conch, Colossal Calamari, Clot, Thunder Elemental, Thunder Elemental, Wingrats, Vu-Murt, Vampire Bat, Tavnazian Sheep, Tavnazian Ram, Splinterspine Grukjuk, Rainbringer Vjatvot, Petrocrab, Orcish Trooper, Orcish Stonelauncher, Orcish Nightraider, Orcish Impaler, Orcish Gladiator, Orcish Footsoldier, Orcish Brawler, Orcish Bowshooter, Orcish Beastrider, Nakki, Miner Bee, Megalobugard, Makara, Leshy, Leshachikha, Grindylow, Greater Pugil, Gigas Wrestler, Gigas' Sheep, Gigas Warwolf, Gigas Slinger, Gigas Martialist, Gigas Fighter, Gigas Catapulter, Gigas Braver, Gigantobugard, Fomor's Wyvern, Fomor's Bat, Fomor Warrior, Fomor Thief, Fomor's Elemental, Fomor Summoner, Fomor Samurai, Fomor Red Mage, Fomor Ranger, Fomor Paladin, Fomor Ninja, Fomor Monk, Fomor Dragoon, Fomor Dark Knight, Fomor Black Mage, Fomor Beastmaster, Fomor Bard, Ferrocrab, Death Jacket, Dark Elemental, Crimson Knight Crab, Cluster, Clipper, Cetic Parasite, Bugard, Blackbone Frazdiz, Atomic Cluster, Asrai, Apsaras, Air Elemental, Acrophies, Abraxas, Abhac, Thunder Elemental, Will-o'-the-Wisp, Wight, Wendigo, Water Elemental, Triangle Crab, Thunder Elemental, Stag Beetle, Spunkie, Spinous Pugil, Spider Wasp, Specter Bat, Snipper, Shrieker, Sabertooth Tiger, Poison Funguar, Overgrown Ivy, Orctrap, Orcish Stonechucker, Orcish Serjeant, Orcish Neckchopper, Orcish Grunt, Orcish Fighter, Orcish Cursemaker, Marsh Funguar, Land Pugil, Greater Pugil, Glide Bomb, Ghoul, Ghoul, Fosse Pugil, Forest Tiger, Flytrap, Fishtrap, Diving Beetle, Digger Wasp, Clipper, Bulldog Bats, Birdtrap, Beady Beetle, Battrap

On tap today: the first round of mob updates for the Chains of Promathia zones.
  • Mobs were added for: Attohwa Chasm, Bearclaw Pinnacle, Bibiki Bay, and Bibiki Bay - Purgonorgo Isle. Even though Purgonorgo Isle is technically part of Bibiki Bay, it was given it's own zone, to make it easy to see which mobs load where.
  • All the Mimic mobs were finally given their own Mimic mob family.
  • By popular request, two new options were added to the Mob Search: the option to search for only NM mobs, and the option to search for only Fishing mobs.
  • In reponse to a number of other requests, the Advanced Item Search now has a drop-down option with four different ways to sort searches:
    • Equippable Only
    • Armor & Weapons Only
    • Armor Only
    • Weapons Only
This should make it easier to do broad searches; for example, a search for only armor and weapons that become available for Black Mages, from levels 40-45.

A slew of behind the scene updates have gone in, making the site's information easier to view and providing a large amount of new info.
  • All the mobs have been updated! Every monster in the database has been reviewed and updated where appropriate, providing new information. Notable changes include:
    • Every standard NM has been updated with information about where and how it spawns, the difficulty in killing it (when that was known,) and more!
    • All the mobs that can be fished up were added.
    • Total Spawn Points information was added to every mob. This usually designates how many many copies of a mob can be loaded in the zone at once; as an example, up to 18 different copies of the Robber Crab in Boyahda Tree can be loaded at once. For many NMs and Fished mobs, it represents how many different specific locations a mob can load at; for example, Ixtab in Delkfutt's Upper Tower can load at two entirely different locations.
    • Behavioral information was updated. Fields were added for mobs that Track Based on Scent, and those that have True Sight, and those fields have been filled in. A field was also added to designate mobs that are Aggressive to Resting; these are mobs that would not normally be aggressive to a character (either because the character is too high level to get standard aggro, or because the mob isn't normally aggressive), but becomes aggressive if the character rests near them. We don't have much data on this sort of mob; if you see certain mobs act in that manner, please leave feedback to let us know.
    • All pet mobs were added and linked to their masters.
    • The respawn timer and location was added to many mobs, where it was known.
    • By popular demand, Bat mobs have been split into two families: Giant Bat mobs which are a single bat, and Bats which are comprised of a set of three bats together.
    • There were many other NM mobs added that aren't in use yet; they are for missions, quests, Garrison, etc. Information on those will be added in the future.
    • This round of updates completes the mobs from the first release of the game, and the Rise of Zilart expansion. No mobs from the recent Chains of Promathia expansion are in yet; they will be added in the near future.
  • The mob display has been updated to reflect all this new information, along with the mob search lists.
  • The item display now shows mob levels, and lists NPCs, mobs, and recipes in a sorted manner.
Enjoy all the changes! As always, if you have further information regarding any data on the site, don't hesitate to leave feedback letting us know, so we can keep it as accurate as possible.
