Not exactly, but there's certainly some new incentives for riding fast. Sometimes when you talk to the stable hands, they'll ask you to take a chocobo back to a specific city (which you are of course free to refuse if you wish). When you arrive, you can get rewards based on how long it took you to arrive.

Trips to Jeuno typically give you a one-use warp item back to your city of departure for fast times. Trips to the other cities can win you Dragon Chronicles or Miramete's Memoirs for fast times.

And as an added perk, taking a chocobo back to its home stables doesn't cost you anything, so if you need a ride and they want you to go where you're already going, let them pay you instead of the other way around!

Record times -are- recorded in the system rather like BCNM records, so in that sense there's racing going on, but as for chocobo racing like in FF7 or the realworld Triple Crown circuit, not today.

Try 'LinkShell' racing.

My old LS always used to do races which were great fun.

Make a party/alliance for all race members and include one (reliable) referee. Referee takes all the entrance fee (your choice, but usually between 1 to 10k). Choose a starting and finishing point. First one at finishing point wins all the cash :)

We used to do Chocobo racing (had to remain on Chocobo at all times) and the 'fun run'.

'fun run' was great! Every race contender had to be lvl 1 and had to race from one city to another! No warping or help from anyone else etc. Home Point had to be at the start point although you could update this throughout the race as you get further on.

Good ol' MysteryTour's got all the details. That page is the listing of Bastok quests, though the new chocobo time-trial type thing is listed first.
