Tenshodo Fame

Because of the difficulty in regularly traveling to Norg to check fame levels, a common method of figuring out your Tenshodo fame level is by checking the price of rice balls sold by Ghebi Damomohe (Lower Jeuno, J-7 in the Neptune's Spire Inn.) The price that a character pays for a rice ball will drop as his Tenshodo fame rises, per the table below. This is a useful gauge until a character reaches level six Tenshodo fame, at which point the rice balls drop in price to their minimum. The most popular quests in Norg (the six Ninja scroll quests and the Trial by Water summoner quest) can all be obtained with level four Tenshodo fame, when the price of rice balls is at 160 or lower.

The info on tenshudo fame is incomplete. Rice Ball prices are not a good indicator of Tenshudo fame. While raising your Tenshudo fame will lower the prices of Tenshudo non-guild stores, it is not the only factor in the pricing. Raising all other fame (not sure if it's specifically jeuno or not) will raise the price of Rice Balls at the store used. This is why several people have sufficient fame for those two quests at 160 riceball price, while others don't have it with 155.

Likewise, raising Tenshudo fame will raise the prices of goods from non-guild merchants in all areas except Jeuno and Tenshudo stores. Jeuno merchant prices are note affected by any fame at all.

Interesting. This would explain why the price of bomb ash from olaf rose from 463 to 473 in Bastok when I am a Bastoker and have had fame 9 for over 12 months: I raised my Tenshodo fame for scroll questing and Leviathan.

I would definitely agree that rice ball price is as good as useless for determining your Norg/Tenshodo fame. I saved building Norg fame for last, so by the time I got around to it my prices were hideously high (I think they were around 165 or 166 when I started building Norg fame). However, after completing the "Mihgo's Amigo" quest around 40 times (160 necklaces) I got all the ninjitsu quests despite my rice ball price being 161.

I think the best advice is to complete the yagudo necklace quest 40 times (like I did) regardless of what your rice ball price is.

I turned in 121 zinc ores (1 to start the quest ^^), and no necklaces, and had plenty of fame for every quest I've tried in Norg.

Good comments all around here; the fame guide is rather outdated, and will be revamped at some point down the road.

The rice balls can be useful for checking rough fame, as long as people realize that Tenshodo merchants act just like guild merchants in their price fluctuations. How accurate the price really is depends very much on whether other players have been buying them. I suppose if people are buying the rice balls regularly, that would reduce the usefulness of the measure.

I've never seen a precise measure of the minimum number of zinc ore or Yagudo necklace quest completions that need to be done to reach Tenshodo fame level 4, which is what is necessary to activate all the Norg quests. That's probably the best method to list, when trying to nail down Tenshodo fame.
