errant hpl. subcraft level incorrect

I've now made 8 houppelandes at 51.x goldsmithing and I have not received a single goldsmithing skillup. This skillcap is probably conjectured from the gold chain in the recipe (which I have received 0.4 GS skillup from making)
Not sure how you want to reflect this info....

Thanks for the info. I checked a number of Japanese websites, and they all listed 53 for the Goldsmithing component on the Errant Houppelande; it's possible that there was just bad luck for those 8 copies, to not have any skillups. It's hard to know for certain one way or another without checking the guild NPCs to see what level they recommend the recipe at.

I made a 9th and still no skill. How many do i need to make before we call it significant? I'm almost at 96 and will likely stop making them there, as I'm not exactly making money on the synthesis...

you're not supposed to try lvling crafts like that.

It's not so much "trying to level goldsmithing" as it is leveling clothcraft to 96 and hoping for some ancillary bonuses. As it is, my goldsmithing went up 0.4 from making all the chains.
Now then. My own tests have shown that skillup rate is approximately 33% during the 50s. The chance of making 9 synthesis and skilling up zero is less than 3%. I have only ever seen the houppelande skillcap written as 53 and I have never seen any data that backs that figure up.
So, what I'm saying is: we have NO evidence to support a level 53 cap, and we have SOME evidence to support a level 51 (or less) cap.
PS. I'm now 96 clothcraft so barring contract synthesis, this is all the data you will have from me. I will have to level my goldsmithing on hydro claws from here on out.
